ok so i have £380 and i need the folowing items

New mobo
New CPU
New GRAPHICS CARD (main item where the main moneys going)

i have a *gasp* ****** PSU was cheep but i dont know how good it is, its 600watts

this will be for gaming, as mentiond, but 1 thing i must have is atleast 2 free PCI slots.

i will be playing stuff like - fear, bf2, doom , quake 4 some cod 2, some older games that im not worried about maybe prey and some newer games aswell.

i would have no problems doing this but i took a bit of a break from pcs for a while

thanx for any help u can give me

You can't mention competitors here.. Could have a look here if you're not sure. FAQ

I'm not sure you'll be able to get anything worthwhile with that kind of money. I'd say go for an E6300 and a nice 975x board. Also an X1800XT. That's about your budget gone and that PSU is bad news. Also you'd probally need to upgrade your memory as I doubt your old PC supported DDR2.

i should have mentiond that i was looking at athlon 939 cpu's

i thought that only the newer AM2 cpu's were "picky about ram"
and when i said it was 2 years old i didnt mean the "avridge" ram, its the dogs balls ram - so im told lol

i was thinking about getting a 7900GT and then geting another later and using SLI but the cheeper ones

i think i can get a new psu anyway from a friend

sorry about mentioning the "competitors"

You could probabaly save around £10 by switching the hiper PSU to the Tagan TG430-U15 430W ATX2.01 Easycon SLi Compliant Modular Silent PSU (CA-007-TG)
Price: £46.99 (£55.21 Including VAT at 17.5%)

I hear good things about the Asrock board (mainly the ability to upgrade to AM2) for skt939 but the cpu is an OEM so you would need an aftermarket heatsink or to buy a retail cpu.

I also hear that the X1900 cards perform better than the 7900GT's and are also generally cheaper.

I'm not sure if the board supports SLI. Also by the time you get round to getting a 2nd 7900GT a single card will perform better than the 2 substandard ones put together.
