gaming memory for oem systems

Has anyone had experience doing this? There are deals on gaming memory like kingston fury and crucial ballistix that make them better value sometimes than their regular stuff.

There's no XMP or voltage support, so they'd have to be run how they boot (fury seems to be 2400 Mhz and Ballistix is 2666).

My biggest worry is actually the heatspreaders because some of the boards (especially 4 dimm ones) have the memory slots really close together. There's usually plenty of space on low-end DIY boards (like Asus Hx10 ones).

I thought all dimm slots were same width and memory and heatsink would be no thicker than that otherwise it would interfere with the next dimm .

You might well be right and I have no reason to worry about it, but some boards definitely have them way closer together and I'd imagine the engineers wouldn't anticipate fitting any dimms with heatspreaders out of the factory.

For example: if you look at 4 dimm optiplex boards on google and compare that to e.g. the Asus H110M-D, Asus gives their boards a noticeable gap between the slots, while in the Dell motherboards, they seem to be right next to each other, with the gap inserted between each channel.
