Gaming mice - do they really make any difference?

I noticed a massive difference back in my CSS days. I went from a crappy generic microsoft mouse to an MX518. amazing difference. much smoother, much more accurate. Definately makes a difference IMO.

Mouse of the champions.

I concur... including the silver bits

My minecraft skills depend on the best available hardware...

I was thinking of getting a cyborg rat mouse, I was looking at the 3.

I was thinking it would be a cheep and cheerful purchase, well reasonably cheap. Just curious if its a good idea to spend a bit more for the rat 5?

The main thing I'm worrying about is that the rat 3 will not be comfortable as it doesn't have the adjustment stuff. I've read you need a claw grip and I think I'd rather palm the mouse which is what I'm used to.

However if clawing is comfortable I wouldn't mind something new. My parents use my pc so its fairly important its comfortable for them to use and not some odd outlandish shape that they will struggle with.

Thanks

Rat5 is a great gaming mouse, I have had mine a good while, still going to use it, just like to change every now and then. The Rat7 is too close to the Rat5 features, unless you can get it at a similar price to a 5, then go for it. Rat9 would be the one, but I don’t know what they are like, I assume it will be the same high quality as the others in the series.
The difference in feel is not that much, I don’t ’claw’ any mouse. At my age it would not be a good idea, fingers would probably seize up.
The design however might give your parents a fright

:)

Zowie EC1 eVo here. It's a beast... new optical sensor, no acceleration, 1000 Hz, no drivers, no prediction. I know what it sounds like but honestly less is more :D

what i find very useful with Gaming Mice is the DPI switch so you can adjust between low-high sensitivity in game for example reducing the dpi when shooting at targets at long range.

Also depending on the mouse manufacturer there are some nifty features available in the driver software like mouse acceleration (the faster you move your dpi will dynamically increase) & de-acceleration or to link specific mouse settings to certain games; it all really depends on your expectations and playing style.

some of the dpi numbers or numbers of buttons advertised are really more a marketing gag then having a real value when you use them.

Gerbils are much better for gaming, but if you have large hands then a Rat would most likely suit you best, but for those with small hands I'd definitely recommend a mouse. Average size hands = Gerbil forsure.

Don't bother with a Hamster though, they are awfully slow and don't last long at all.

I have a Logitech g5 and I set it to the highest dpi purely because I like it responsive.

Used to use that Microsoft mouse ^ for years. Quality.

I had a RAT9, would not recommend it. Settled for a G9x instead and haven't looked back.

CM Storm Spawn is also great, and cheap too.

I just got a G500 and I'm happy with it.

Thought of getting a cyborg rat 9 but it was kind of expensive. Really like the shape of this mouse, only niggles - weight system seems pointless its heavy enough without weights and adding weights doesn't affect the feel of the mouse significantly enough. Also theres a extra button below the two side buttons which I haven't set up to do anything in the software. Just seems like I'd press it accidentally all the time when playing a game.

Great mouse if you're on a budget I understand you're looking for "the best" but I can't see there being much of a divide between this and a top of the range mouse tbh.

I used

MX510 > MX518 > Roccat Kone > G500

MX518 was my favourite due to it's shape and since it had the on the fly adjustment over the MX510.

Like the idea of the RAT 7

The MX510 was also my first gaming mouse :)

Loved that thing I even took it abroad on holiday with me, didn't want to be stuck with the rubbish laptop trackpad.

Trying to talk myself out of it but im fairly sure im about to order a Naga HEX... 6 buttons on the side seems more than enough and im using something i got from ASDA for about £5 for the last year or so... want to treat myself to have something nice next to me lovely QPAD keyboard.
