since i upgraded my system im having a terrible time with games crashing and locking up.

its time to get to the bottom of it and i need your help.

i suspect it <may> be my bfg 8800gt oc .. so lets try n isolate that from the equation first .. what things can i run to stress test it ??

i can run 3dmark06 all day but crysis=crash

cod 4=crash (though only in multiplayer and only since the 169.28's)

ut3=crashes after about 5 mins.

i have an akasa eclipse 62 case with front n rear 120mm fans ..im using the stock cooler on the bfg but i have riva tuner setup should personaly i cant see how it can be heat related (if it is the card at all, its just a feeling i have)

so bring it on, what can i do lads ??

rest of the spec
_____________

asus p5k-e
intel e6850
2x1gb ocz pc6400

using the soundmax onboard sound in azalia mode
the only card in my machine is the 8800gt
i have 2 sata hd's and 1 sata dvd writer.
psu is a 530w tagan jobby.

tried all the nvidia drivers from 169.02 up.
currently on 169.28's and losing the will to bother with pc's anymore.

I was having a very similar problem recently, any games I tried would crash to desktop or bluescreen after a few minutes. Turned out to be a faulty stick of ram, try running memtest and see if it chucks up any errors.

The COD4 issue I think is unrelated, and is a punk buster issue unfortunately. PB doesn't like ati tool or rivatuner etc, so be sure to close all those overclocking programs first before multiplayer cod4. It really is a pain, and should chuck you out rather than crashing your system... I smell a class action suit against PB :)

Try running stress programs such as prime 95 AND ati tool test to stress graphics. I reckon it isn't heat, but try declocking your memory or core a bit and see if the card doesn't actually like the stock clocks.

I had a the same issue as you when I updated to 169.25 and 169.28 beta's for my 8800GTX. 32-bit Vista by the way.

I rolled back to 169.09 and it sorted out all the BSOD's/crashes I was getting.

I went into the Vista "problem" thingy, I since I installed the 169.25's, there were 12 instances of the graphics drivers failing in 3 days. I had none before and I have had none since.

I have also found that Rivatuner is a bit more tempremental with the latest drivers so I wonder if theres an issue with latest drivers and overclocking?

HTH.

EDIT: Just seen you've tried older drivers too. I'm no expert, but is the PSU OK?

Could I suggest you update that thread with how you solved your problem Andy. Threads that end with no 'end reply' are pretty annoying, especially to the people that tried to help. :)

What he said, to run COD4 i have to disable ATI tool, and close the punkbuster processes before I launch the game - its a joke tbh, and its been the case for months now
