Hey guys,

I have recently learned that the Asus VH236 was the chosen monitor for FPS games (black ops and halo reach) in the MLG for the 2011 circuit.

I live in the UK and I dont seem to be able to get this gaming monitor so I am trying to find an equal or better gaming monitor, I also believe it might be quite old and outdated now anyway.

Is there a newer version of this monitor that would be suited for call of duty or first person shooters in general?

The monitor is for COD MW3 on PS3 exclusively.

It must have a HDMI port, low response time, preferably 2/5ms, resolution of 1920x1080.

Hi there and welcome to the forums :)

Do you have a budget in mind?

Also, will you be playing any PC games (so you can make use of the 120Hz refresh rate monitors and higher viewable framerates)?

Finally, how do you want to get sound out of the PS3? Do you already have speakers/headphones hooked up directly to the monitor or do you need speakers/headphones to connect to the monitor itself? If so, what connection type do you need?

I'm not sure theres any real advantages to a gaming monitor for a console the built in input latency, typically low framerate (not sure if MW3 runs at 30 or 60) and relatively low turning speed on a pad compared to keyboard/mouse negate most of the advantages over any fairly reasonable TV/monitor.

Thanks for the speedy replies!

No set budget really, the highest spec monitor I'm looking for really. I guess there is no point in it having 3D capabilites though.

No PC games at all, exclusively for PS3.

I use Astro A40's, they connect directly to the PS3 via a toslink cable to a transmitter and transmit the sound to a receiver with a 3.5mm jack to the headphones themselves.

Great headset by the way.

Well currently I'm gaming on a 32" Sony Bravia, which is not very practical for competitve gaming. I guess the TV is not specfically built for gaming, like some gaming monitors today are.

Fair enough, in that case I would go for a good value 24in 1080p TN panel monitor like this Iiyama with a HDMI port. It is known to handle motion well for PC games and have low input lag, so for console gaming it should be ideal.

It looks nearly identical in spec to the ASUS VH236H actually.

I guess I just have never heard of Iiyama before whilst I have heard of ASUS.

Do ASUS manufacture a superior product? Why do you believe the ASUS monitor was chosen as the monitor of choice for a major gaming circuit?

Iiyama are a really well known name in monitors (been in the market for decades) and rather well respected. Though I guess they don't make a lot of other products (unlike ASUS) so they may not be so well known.

As for why the ASUS monitor was chosen for a gaming circuit - I have absolutely no evidence for it but it sounds very much like a promotion deal (ie they did a deal with ASUS and picked a decent performing TN panel monitor that was good value), there certainly isn't anything special with the VH236H.
