Gaming Monitors

Going from your current monitor the first one you linked you'll notice a difference due to the refresh and g sync.

What gfx card do you have currently as one of the monitors linked is gsync the other isnt.

Also I'd highly advise not to get that B Grade as the res on that size screen isn't great at all. If your going super wide make the jump to actually get 3440x1440.
 
i currently have a 970 but will get a 1070 in a month or so.

would you say there is any better buys than the one i linked for under/around £500?

even though i have a geforce gpu is it worth getting a freesync monitor? Also the screen refresh rate seems low

I would avoid the freesync monitor unless you plan to get a amd card g sync monitors are more expensive but g sync is better tech imo.

I would be wary of the benq I owned 2 in the past and had issues with them both the picture on them is often poor and no amount of fiddling could get it right. The drop in picture quality from ips to the benq might leave you disappointed And I had a weird ghosting effect on the monitor you linked which annoyed the crap out of me so I sent it back and got a rog swift.

Plus g sync makes a big difference especially at higher resolutions I wouldn't buy a monitor for that price with out it.

I have a Rog swift my mate has the acer you linked and both stunning monitors.

I love my Rog swift properly the best gaming monitor you can buy right now but the honestly my friends acer is just as good and struggle to see the differences when we lan.

The only differences are the acer build quailty seems a bit cheaper and the viewing angles aren't as good but you can overclock it. I would say the swift has a slighty better picture but once you start gaming its you can bearly notice the difference, I couldn't any ways maybe younger eyes can :)

Response times are important but the advertised times are not always accurate you have to check monitor reviews generally to get more accurate details on how they actually perform.

long story short:
motion blur will be massively reduced on the monitor you linked compared to your current screen.
colours will be worse (more washed out / grey) compared to your current screen.

144Hz feels noticeably "smoother" than 60Hz. also aids with reducing motion blur.

IPS vs TN is basically do you prefer having greater viewing angles and better colours, or less motion blur.
 
1ms will be TN and so fast response but some image quality compromises but maybe not so important if mostly used for intense gaming.

4ms will be IPS or VA both also have some image traits but usually better then TN colours, contrast and viewing angles.

As above yes you can notice the extra smoothness of a 1ms panel combined with 144Hz but for me it was usually only when turning or panning very quickly so I'm more than happy with a 100HZ panel with games limited to 75 fps on a 5ms IPS panel with G-Sync to catch the odd drop down to 40 fps.

I used an Asus 144Hz TN 27" panel for a couple of years and would have been happy with it, despite the atrocious BLB compared to even modern TN panels, until IPS panels got down to 4-5ms (well they are actually closer to 8ms in reality when tested independently) and I was eventually tempted by an Acer 34" 21:9

I may have bought that particular B Grade Benq 3501 and will post on my findings. I was actually trying to buy the Acer equivalent for my dedicated sim rig as it's just for gaming but OCUK managed to sell it twice and I lost out! Not bothered about the low DPI of 1080 on a 35" 21:9 screen and may even prefer to watch films on it due to the deep blacks of the VA panel inside.

Let us know how you get on as that panel is supposedly plagued with problems. If luck is on your side, it can however seemingly be great.
 
Yes but you bought via a decent company with a good returns policy.

I'm sure it'll be fine as the modern TNs are vastly improved on even just a couple of years previous.

Acer have really confused that sector though with 4 or 5 monitors all quite similar so that's probably why there's not many reviews.
