Gaming mouse for <£50

Got a MX 518 and I think its gr8! Its a personal choice however. At first it took me some time to get use to the higher dpi settings.
And by "improve your skill" if you are on about gaming skills, I think it does play a part in FPS games, my kill scores have gone way up in BFBC2.(or may be its me having a really good reaction time!)

I'll find out in a few days and let you know.

I've used the same white M$ mouse since the day 'optical' mice were released! I tried switching mice for a wireless Logitech and when the batteries depleted I moved back to my trusty wired M$ mouse and noticed a massive improvement on accuracy. The cursor speed was probably set too high on the Logitech rather than optical accuracy.

Expectations: More comfort (better grip and no hand cramping), more precision when lining up those head shots, easy switching between mouse speed (i.e. moving between a sniper to controlling a tank turret in BC2) and some extra speed when using the customised buttons (molotov and pills).

Had a MX518 for years, it has never let me down, its just the right size, shape and weight for decent gaming sessions.

Last Christmas I got bought a Saitek Cyborg and again thats a really nice mouse, feels weird at first and the design isn't to everybodys liking but it is brilliant if you needs lots of buttons.

I went from a MX518 to a Deathadder, ive gone through 2 of them already, amazing mouses :D though the past don't last long :(

My habu's left button failed, would click multiple times when you clicked it once, brilliant mouse though!

My new Lachesis is on par with it for me :)

I wouldnt suggest the razer deathadder, im currently using it, and its being replaced by the logitech mx518, its because the mouse just gets too dirty too quickly, also it makes my hand sweat a lot =[ LOGITECH IS THE WAY FOWARD!

I just bought a Reaper Edge (top one in the pic and the thread is good too), it was 60 and I got it on sale for 30.

The reviews were through the roof.

I said I'd post back on what I thought about this mouse.

Keep in mind that I hate installing software for peripherals and have not installed a single piece of software since attaching this mouse to my PC.

I've been using it non stop for over two weeks now and I really do like it a lot. The mouse is pretty large and it really works well for comfort due to several points on your palm resting on the mouse (instead of a claw grip that can lead to cramping).

The DPI selection is flawless and is selected by pressing a button on the mouse. I have absolutely no idea how anyone could play on the highest DPI settings, so I'd consider a 3600 resolution way way waaaaay more than enough for anyone (even to control a tank turret in BC2).

Another excellent feature is how the side thumb buttons work. They are easy to reach and I've never accidentally pressed them. They also work out of the box, in web browsers they function as back and forward and in game they operation as mouse button 4 and 5. Again, that is without using the proprietary peripheral software.

The mouse wheel is also very nice, not too easy to scroll with distinct locking as you go through each click. This is a pretty important feature, I play L4D1+2 a lot and when a mouse wheel is too easy to scroll you end up flying past the molotov or skipping over the pills, which are usually required immediately on the spur of the moment.

Aesthetically it looks impressive and the DPI selection LEDs strobe too.

I'm still getting used to the sensitivity because I want to be able to game with minimal movement. So I'm playing with it set to higher than my normal DPI resolution.

One item that did surprise me was the lift off sensitivity. My old trusty M$ mouse was a big favourite but the resolution was very low and I also like to use a small mouse mat. So during gaming I would subconsciously lift off the mouse and pull it back to the center of the mat. The M$ lift off sensitivity was very low, so the mouse cursor/cross-hair would not move at all. However with the Reapers Edge it does. It still tracks movement when lifted in the air by about 3mm, which is unnecessary but not difficult to get used to. I had no idea why other reviewers mentioned this until I saw it first hand, especially since I didn't realise I was lifting off my mouse from the mat so regularly.

All in all, I'm astounded by how well everything works and the quality feel and look. This cost considerably lower than some of the other popular mice and after reading a ton of reviews and now using it, I really can't see what else they could add to justify the additional cost.

Hope this helps.
