Hello,

I have been playing Team Fortress® 2 for a week and have finally got around to playing a Sniper!

Sadly I am getting my **** handed to me on a regular basis so I am looking at ways of improving my accuracy.

The mouse I am currently using is a regular Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 which is half decent but I think there are probably better/more precise options available?

I'm not that up on mouse tech but there is this DPI thing which I think when its higher means you get better precision/more accurate aim?

Am I right in thinking that a corded mouse will be a better option than a wireless one? as I have always used a wired mouse.

So what is the current set of faves then? I had a quick look at the selection on the Overclockers.co.uk site, any of these good? quite a price difference between them though!

  • Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000 - OEM
    £18.79

  • Microsoft HABU 2000dpi High Precision Gaming Mouse
    £37.59

  • Microsoft Sidewinder 2000dpi High Precision Gaming Mouse
    £41.11

I also see quite a lot of products from a company called Razar, how are these then?

Any helpfull suggestions appreciated, thanks in advance! :)

Best to see how you like the mouse to be in your hand, the Razer mice are best suited to 'fingertip' use whereas I personally like to place my whole hand on the mouse which is why I have a mx1000.

The Logitech G5 is another good bet, the DIP adjustment means you can make it more accurate (higher DPI) for twitch gaming but then press a button and set it lower for the times when it would be too precise.

Depending on the game sometimes lower DPI is better, in BF2 I ran super low mouse sensitivity when sniping so I could just headshot all the time.

Its a case of the mouse can make you "slightly" better but its all down to the skill really. ;)

Razer Deathadder :) I got one, will never look back :) Plus im primarily sniper in most games, so I can definatly recommend!

logitech g9, just got mine today as i needed a new replacment, its got pretty much everything you could need and want to configure for a mouse.

should be around £50 ;)

razer Deathadder definately, i use a Diamondback myseelf and their ergonomic style are great and their huge buttons are superb, make sure you use a nice Mat though as some contain silicon feet which slip and slide, very handy.

I'm getting a G5 2007 in the next few days - I'll let you know! I think it looks cool anyway and I couldn't get on with the razers with the amount of normal office stuff I do on my computer.

You say you're on an Intellimouse Explorer 3 at the moment?

Is that the original, or the re-released 2007 version? The re-released one is much more responsive than the original, and if you're used to the feel of the Intellimouse, why not stick with what you know?

At the moment, out of my MX518, my Intellimouse Explorer 3 (2007), and my Logitech MX Revolution, I play mostly with the MX Rev.

i think a Razer Lachesis might be worth buying ive just orderd mine last nite from the rain forest store as they had 5 in stock 68 quid but gonna be soooo nice

I can also recommend the deathadder, and i mainly play sniper in most games that have one and after upgrading to it from my old mx510 it made a world of difference.

I have a Habu, a Diamondback and a Logitech. They are all good mice. The hubu gives 2000 dpi and is Laser, but is quite big and a little clunky to use. The Diamondback is 1600 dpi, cant really tell the difference between it and habu, but its much smaller and more comfy to use. JMHO. I am using the Diamondback as my main mouse now.

cannot beat it im afraid :) wounderfull piece of kit.

i love the ms oem basic ones becuase they are so light - perfect for (me) snipping. no stupid high DPI or anything but its my favourite mouse of all time.

its not about the DPI imo its about how the mouse feels to you. as mentioned above it depends how you hold the mouse. if you like having you whole hand on it then a logictec would probably be a good bet. but if you got spider-ey fingers like myself a nice little light ms one will do the job.

Hello,

thanks for all the replies. I still haven't ordered a new mouse yet but have been having a closer look at some of the rodents suggested above. If what you guys are saying is correct then a low DPI mouse is better for sniping?

After having played a Sniper for over a week now I have noticed that I am holding the mouse with my fingertips, this seems to be giving me better results, I guess that means I want a light and clunk free mouse then?

Gonna have a read of some reviews rthe next few days, would like to see why some of these mice cost so much? I mean I could buy two or three Laser Mouse 6000's for the same price as the top end versions!

Also what is the difference between the HABU and the Deathadder? I seem to remember reading that they were very similar?

So here is my current short list . . .

Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000 - OEM
£17.61 inc

Logitech G5 Gaming-Grade Laser Mouse - Retail
£35.24 inc

Razer DeathAdder Blue 1800dpi High Precision Gaming Mouse
£41.11 inc

Razer Lachesis Banshee Blue 4000dpi High Precision Gaming Mouse
£56.39 inc (Preorder)

Logitech G9 Gaming-Grade Laser Mouse
£58.74 inc

That G5 is the old version. The new version has two thumb buttons and various other improvements, and looks better (imo). Quite a few of OcUK's competitors sell it.

Best to see how you like the mouse to be in your hand, the Razer mice are best suited to 'fingertip' use

I find taht strange as my razor deathadder i would say is a wrist movemnt mouse. I like finger tip but im getting used to using my wrist more then i used to.

Razor mice are very light and are considered by many to be the best mice.

The death adder is pin point accurate. i love it.

Any razer; copperhead, deathadder, the new one or a logitech g5 with the weight cartridge removed.
Am a sniper myself in tf2 and have my mouse set to 200dpi and ingame speed to lowish, allows me to have medium speed for walking around the place and good sniper control and also gives me the option to drop the dpi to ~400-800 for control.

Get good at the game and any mouse will do :)

yes but a good mouse is vital try with a 5.00 market stall jobie or a razer the difference is a lot.if your a rifle player or sniper player it is mass difference.if you a run and gun player no point.i had the microsoft while one of my fav rasers broke and after a week chucked it away. the difference is quite a lot. especially over distance say if sniping as with cheaper mice you cant be as precise.i personally use diamondbacks.
