First off, is a gaming mouse going to offer any noticeable difference over my Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0A, other than having extra buttons?

Secondly, is there any gaming mice with a good bit of weight? Today I was in a large computer retailer that shall remain nameless, they had a selection of gaming mice laid out to "play with" and they all felt light and flimsy, where as my wireless mouse has the extra weight of batteries and feels much more solid.

I'm not sure I want a gaming mouse, but it is a possibility, if it's going to improve my FPS experience, feel right and not cost a fortune!

If you want uber heavy id say a rat 7 (although if it breaks cyborg are a f*&kin joke to deal with!) Failing that the logitech G500 has a fair bit of weight once tweaked. Gaming mice offer better all round quality, durability and sensativity. I'd stay away from wireless anything for gaming but thats just me.

I've used a RAT9 wireless not as responcive as the wired 7. Same go's with the 1st edition razer mamba. Also used turtle beach xp500's on my xbox for sound and it got constant interfearance :S

I bought myself a CMStorm Sentinel Advance II a few weeks ago, the difference coming from a wireless mouse for me was amazing. Improved my stats in BF3 anyway :P

Had the original Sentinel Advance since slightly before release (3 and a half years ago or so) it was sent to me by CM Storm to review and they allowed me to keep it. Still love it :D

It has been through the wars though. I used it so much that the rubberised finish was half peeled off and the top mesh went rusty :(

Was considering replacing it, but I opted to peel the rubber finish off, sand/key the surface of the plastic underneath, and an email to CM Storm later, some replacement metal trim was in the post free of charge :D

G500 is nice and comes with assorted weights to add up to 27g of extra weight (6x1.7g and 6x4.5g weights).

I don't really use the extra buttons that much but the reason I bought it is because of the ergonomic shape and the reliability aspect. I was sick of cheap mice breaking all the time so I invested in a decent gaming mouse that will last me a minimum of 3 years as it comes with a 3 year warranty.

I's say the G500 is about my price range if I was to get one, I might go back to the shop tomorrow and ask to actually use one, fully weighted up if possible.

I've had no issues at all with my current microsoft wireless mouse, apart from batteries dying! I think really I'd have to use wired gaming mouse/my current mouse back to back to really see any difference, but by then I've already spent my hard earned.

If there's space for it I can add extra weight, I work in a glass factory, doing the lead work (like church windows but very rarely as elaborate), which has a lot of scrap lead involved.

I'll have a look into all the options mentioned, if possible have a go of them (anyone in the Durham area have one I could have a real crack at?), then possibly get one next weekend.

Ive just weighed my G500, its got 3 of the optional 4.5g weights and 3 of the 1.7 g weights and would you believe it ...it weighs 138g in total :)

Ive just come from a Microsoft laser mouse 6000 and the G500 feels right at home.

Thanks, the G500 is looking like a strong contender!

I found out my current mouse is a mere 400 dpi, vs 5700 of the G500, is this the reason I get slaughtered on single player battlefield bad company 2? Admittedly I've only just started playing it today and also it's my first day of playing with a keyboard and mouse!

If it's your first day using keyboard and mouse then expect to be bad and get slaughtered for a while. It will take a couple of days/weeks for you to really get used to using them as your input device compared to a controller. Once you've been using them for a while you will become a lot more accurate especially with a mouse.

Also, DPI has nothing to do with it, don't let super high DPI numbers fool you as they are getting into ranges which you will not use. DPI determines how fast your cursor moves across the screen, nothing more. Anything above 2000+ is probably unnecessary for 1080p. Low DPI means you move the cursor slowly which is useful when in situations which require this e.g. sniping. The fact that most gaming mice will have on the fly DPI changing buttons (which the G500 does) is a great addition.

just weighed my g700 its 152g with the batery, no extra weights but the space to store the wireless dongle, will hold around 14g of lead, just tryed with the only bits i had that fit and got it up to 161g.

I'm quite liking the G500, I sort of liked them before I even considered a gaming mouse!

If I have over 100 posts by Thursday (pay day) I think I'll order one, if not I'll go to the shop I was at yesterday where they are 4p more, unless I get my eye on something else in the mean time!

Another quick question, will the G500 work ok on any surface? I don't use a mouse mat, but if the G500 doesn't like working straight on a desk and possibly glass when I move house (I have plans!!), then I'll either have to choose a different mouse or add a mouse mat into the equation.
