sorry if this is posted in the wrong board (was debating a post in the pc board)

are gaming mice worth it? currently using a bog standard wireless microsoft mouse, can i expect any performance increase in-game with a gaming mouse, and if so which are the best mice on the market atm? also is it worth splashing out on an expensive gaming mouse mat.

thanx,
DM

EDIT: I'm an FPS gamer mainly, CSS BF2 etc.

my current mouse is an optic 1 so will i see much of an improvement?

is the reason to get 1 an increase in response times then?

would i notice a difference from 400 dpi? just been doing some googling and thats what I have atm.

edit: semi can you recommend any places that stock gaming mouse where I could actually go and get a feel for them, see how they fit my hand etc. I'd probs end up buying my actual from a net store. also your views on gaming mats. worth the money? what alternative surface is a good set up?

400DPI to 1600DPI = Massive difference. I couldn't use my mouse properly for days.

at 1600 DPI to get the mouse from one side of the screen to the other you move it physically about 2cm :)

uh oh.. so I'll basically have to re-learn how to play? is it easier to aim accurately with such small movements then?
