Im seriously tempted on getting a 22 inch tft. I am wondering tho how games will look as my 6800GT isnt going to be running games at a nice res for the monitor. Are games likely too look terrible runnning at a low res on a monitor of that size.

Low res?
I would hardly say that 1680x1050 is 'low res', would you?
I run a 6800GT on an Asus 22" TFT and although I use my Xbox 360 for gaming these days, the games I've fired on the PC have looked very good.

I have a 6800gt and a 22" monitor, I've not played many games since I got the monitor but Half Life 2 and Wow ran fine at 1680 x 1050

Sorry if i confused you but what i mean was, it is unlikely that my card will run newer games at a high resolution like 1600x1080, more like 1024x768 or 800x600. Is that kind of resolution going to look awfull on a 22 inch monitor?

800*600 and 1024*768 would be a problem because they're not widescreen, so the picture will be stretched horizontally, unless the screen has aspect ratio controls in which case you have the option of side borders. 1280*800 matches the 16:10 aspect ratio of widescreen monitors and still looks fine, so if your PC can handle that res (30% more pixels than 1024*768) then you'll be fine. Much lower than that and it will probably start to look a bit blurry.

On your system, at a guess, I'd say your 6800 GT would struggle to run some newer and more demanding games acceptably at 1280*800 without turning down some settings. Stuff like Oblivion, Fear etc. Less demanding stuff like WOW and HL2 would be fine. Of course it's down to personal taste what framerate you will find 'acceptable'. For some it's 15 fps, for others 40 fps.

Hashcake,
What resolution setting do you have for the Xbox 360,running on the Asus MW221 because I just received my monitor and looks superb with Vista using the monitor's native resolution 1680 by 1050.

I know you didn't ask me but I'm gonna have a go at answering that if that's ok.

On a 1680*1050 screen, the best resolution for your 360 is actually 1280*1024. You're probably thinking "that's 5:4 not 16:10" but after setting the resolution you go into format and set it to widescreen, and then it looks perfect, a full widescreen view and everything in it's proper proportions, and it's 33% more pixels than 1280*768 and 42% more pixels than 1280*720, and it does look noticeably sharper. It also means the image doesn't get vertically stretched so you get the best picture quality.

Cheers fish99 :D
The image quality on the Xbox 360 looks superb when in 1280*1024 as you mentioned.Thankyou for that.Don't know if you have the same monitor as me (Asus MW221),but where's this Overdrive that everyone been talking about as I can't find it.
The Good news however,is that there is no apparent ghosting issue that I can see on my Asus.

Hold down the Menu key for 8 seconds, a menu comes up.

It might not actually be highlighting the currenly selected option (Ie On or Off) so just toggle a few times (you should see the screen shuddle a little) and then leave it on the required option (The one highlighted in white)

I hope you did'nt get one with the ghosting issues (If you have a NOV06 version or newer you should be ok)

I found I had to drop the resolution of FEAR down to

1280x960 (is that widescreen?) and even then it stutters a bit , I'm running everything maxed.

System spec in my sig

But the Asus rescales it very nicely, but bear in mind as it is a larger screen Jaggies ARE more obvious so you need to whack up the AntiAlising etc as well as dealing with the extra resolution of 1680x1050.

You can work it out by dividing 1280 by 960 which gets you 1.33 which is 4:3 expressed as a ratio. So it's not widescreen no because your screen is 1680*1050 which is 1.6 or 16:10 as a ratio.

1280*800 is 16:10, and it's less pixels than 1280*960 so you should get a framerate increase. Fear supports widescreen resolutions with the 1.8 patch btw.

About Fear performance, you should be ok with that rig. Make sure you have soft shadows and anti-aliasing (FSAA) turned off though. If you want to use v-sync and you don't want the framerate hit that it gives you, google a program called DXTweaker which will let you use tripple buffering in Fear and reduces the framerate hit from v-sync considerably. That's how I run Fear since I don't like the tearing from having v-sync off. V-sync off does give the best framerate though.

Hi there,
I successfully changed the resolution on my Xbox to 1280*1024 and agree with what fish99 said. But,what other settings do you recommend regarding the colours and image quality to get the best out of the Xbox 360?
Plus,I have the Overdrive disabled.

The rest is down to personal taste more than anything.
I tend to use the 'standard' mode but I've tweaked the settings slightly.
