Gaming on keyboard and mouse

Yesterday I got my new machine for gaming on, been wanting to switch from console for a long time and finally did it, been away from pc gaming since BF2 in 2005, thats when I stopped and even then I wouldnt say I was great, just enjoyed it. So how long did it take you guys to get used to keyboard and mouse gaming? I mean to get to that level like with a controller when you dont have to think about it, you can hit the correct keys without glancing down, also did it take anyone a while to get their fingers used to streatching up to say the 4 and 5 keys from the WSAD area?

I've always played K+M, so can't say. I'd wager, a month, tops.
 
I'm thinking the keyboard is also an issue, its one that was in the house anyway I'm using, which is a Microsoft comfort curve so its shaped and also rises up in the centre a bit, would I be better getting a gaming keyboard asap?

Not necessarily. But yes I would, to do it properly :)

ill have a look at the reviews of these keyboards, perhaps when I get a bit better I can justify the price of some of them. on a positive note I just played a few games of BF2 and had no problem finding a low ping fully populated server:) so chuffed, that game was all I played in 2005 and its still an option, ordered bad company 2 for £4.99 yesterday because even that more recent game has died a death on xbox, bet ill have no problem finding plenty to play on pc
 
If you're looking for a new keyboard go mechanical. They're a huge improvement over regular membrane based boards, and should last a lot longer too.

I can personally recommend the Steelseries 6Gv2.
 
I was a PC gamer up until the release of the PS2, and then I was a console gamer through the PS2 - Xbox classic - Xbox 360 - PS3 era up until about two years ago, when I made the full switch back to PC gaming, so it only really took me a week to get used to it again. I far prefer it :)
 
I switched to PC about 4 or 5 years ago, it took me maybe a couple of weeks to really get used to it.

I would recommend finding a keyboard you feel comfortable with though.
 
I'd suggest getting a laptop style keyboard with flush keys & a decent mouse & mouse pad. You don't have to spend loads of money to get a decent keyboard & mouse. I've always been KB & mouse so it was tuther way round for me & I had to get used to a controller.
