Hoi guys.

Been thinking about getting an LCD HDTV for gaming. Was just thinking that 1366x786 (if i can even get my X800XT to output at that res) would look naff on such a large screen.

Can anyone confirm/deny this for me?

Cheers.

You can output to pretty much any resolution, however you might need to run a 3rd party application to do so.
One of my mates had to do it for his HTPC setup, I'll be speaking to himn later this afternoon, and i'll ask him what it was again. (if no one here comes up with the answer first)

Surely you cannot go above what the capabilities of the LCD are ? Anyway for the OP i`m now using a 26" LCD TV for my PC, gaming is great, widescreen etc.

That resolutions looks absolutely fine on a TV that big, it's really not an issue. Obviously it's a different experience to playing on a high resolution large monitor - but given that you'll want to sit a bit back from a screen that size anyway, it seems fine. That's my opinion, anyway.

You've almost swayed me :D

The TV I'm looking at is a Medion 32". Thats an extra 6 inches on yours Mr Grumpy.

Will this increase AA and degrade image quality? My thoughts are that it wouldn't be so bad if my X800XT was able to output at 1080i, but at a fixed res of 1366x786 I'm a bit concerned that it will be like running a 2007 and a 2407 side by side at 1600x1200 (if that makes any sense) :p

It should look fine I reckon, as long as you're sitting a suitable distance from the TV, not sat at your desk looking at it. How noticable the picture quality and resolution is all relative to how close you are, so you'll just need to get a good distance away from the screen.

The only real Issues I'd see with running on that, whould be:
a) Not all games supporting 1366x768
b) Not all games supporting widescreen
But there's ways round this, and you can always run on a lower resolution anyway.

I've been thinking along the same lines - yesterday we got a 32" LCD HDTV.

Personally I reckon it will look blocky as hell at that resolution on such a big screen, but it might be fun for some games when sat well back from the screen. The screen in question (a Wharfdale model) doesn't seem to cope overly well with fast motion even on TV, so I'm not going to use it for serious gaming, mainly just for testing purposes to see what big screen gaming is like.

To be honest I haven't even looking into the practicalities of hooking it up yet, as in what kind of inputs it will take.

Im using a samsung 26" HDTV/monitor as a monitor and can honestly it is fantastic for gaming. Im sat about 2 yards from the screen and it looks fantastic ( helped greatly if you have a GFX that does 4x or even 6x AA).

The only problem i initially found with is was that some older games did not do 1360x768 resolution. The website above helped greatly. Most, if not all, new games should support that resolution (Except FIFA 2007  . am waiting for Pro evo anyway :D )
