anyone know if these games will work on windows server 2003 x64 edition? server at work has gone redundant so they gave it to me dispose of. may as well use it for something:

games im hoping that run on the os:

GRID
Battlefield 2
GRAW
Gears of War

cheers for any info.

If XP x64 is anything to go by (I think it's just Windows Server 2003 with all the server type stuff removed) then they should work fine. :)

if you can , just go ahead and dual boot. just to make sure, as im not sure about compatability issues with windows server and windows xp when it comes to games.

i slapped a spare 8600gt into it. its a single core opteron cpu in it. had 2gb ram and a 73gb hard drive in it.

shoudl be good enough for battlefield 2 gaming i guess.

Id defo whack xp or vista onto it, as long as it has compatible drivers for its hardware - server OS is geared towards allocating memory/cpu cycles to services rather than processes, plus it has a slew of unneeded services/processes running (IIS, DHCP server, AD etc etc) that will hog system resources and detract from the game you are playing

I run 2003 server if you follow this guide you'll be fine ;-)

I gamed on server 2003 (x86) a while back and didn't really encounter any issues. It felt marginally snappier compared to xp for general desktop usage too, although to be fair without doing a direct comparison it's hard to judge.

Personally I'd go with Vista64
