Just wondering which is the best OS to have as a gamer, i.e. stability speed etc.

Are there any linux operating systems that rungames comfortably yet? and if so, is it recommended? Just on the verge of a format and just would like to know what u guys think is best.

Hello there i wouldnt use win xp64 As some games do support it like Hl2 but wont run on it .

some have problems running on it although i know bf2 works on it

you will find lack of driver support for XP 64 as my brother did

hes now gone back to XP 32.

for gaming your looking at XP Home or XP Pro.

This mean speaketh the truth. Some people who aren't too keen on the Windows XP eye candy use Windows 2000, but XP is just fine for gaming. XP 64bit will only run games at 32bit speeds unless they are specifically coded for a 64bit operating system (as far as I know, atleast), and you're going to be looking at a lot of driver headaches if you opt for that.

You can run a few games on linux using WINE or Cedega, but it's bound to involve quite a bit of effort and it won't be the most stable experience.
