The R7 1700 doesn't offer anything over the 6 core R5 1600 if it is just a gaming pc. Also that cooler is probably no better than the stock Wraith Spire.

I would take a 6 core cpu and 1080 ti over an 8 core with a slower gpu. Of course it depends on whether the op's friend has a good monitor to make use of it.

true, but my 6 core (5930K) can be taped out to 100% in BF1 quite a few times. but yes 1600 is awesome.

It might be only £4 more but you are dropping down from a 1080 ti to a 1080.
