Gaming PC 1k budget

I've been given 1k and asked to build a gaming pc for a friend, I've not built a of from scratch for a couple of years now so am a bit out of the loop

I need everything apart from windows and he would like to be able to watch Blu rays on it

Could someone please give me a rough idea what is the best I can get out of the cash at the moment?
