Hey guys,

You've always been brilliant in the past when I've needed you for a good speccing :p

Move in to my new house in 4 weeks and finally get my man cave back, so want to christen it with a glorious and powerful gaming PC for me to be unsociable on and lock myself away from the other half :D

Budget is £2k max, if I can not spend all of that great, but if my requirements below require all of that to be spent, then so be it.

So the requirements are:
- 4K Ready and with that said, could the spec please include a 4K monitor so I know which ones are the OcUK recommended ones these days
- If possible after the above, VR ready as I plan on getting a Vive early next year.
- I'd like a dedicated sound card if possible
- Case must have a window and be big enough that I can tinker, I like to mess around with cables for no reason other than to tidy and try make it "cleaner", improve air flow etc. I used to have a Corsair 650D which I loved, as an idea of what I'm looking for. Something like that but not quite as long, was hard for it fit on my desk
- I know this is normally a given for everyone, but as quiet as possible please :)

Other than that, I'm happy to follow what you suggest :) I always get lost when trying to do it myself as I don't know what's best and what's overpriced these days.

Thanks guys

Hi,

A single GTX1080 which is Nvidias newest single gpu card may not be enough by itself for 4K in number of games.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,999.82
(includes shipping: £0.00)

Plus one of those and a 4K screen with ideally gsync wipes out over half the budget and more, but you can add a 2nd 1080 to the above spec.

So instead here is a GTX1070 and 1440 Gsync screen spec along with a i7 and bigger SSD+HDD,

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,985.78
(includes shipping: £0.00)

With the option of adding a 2nd card later in sli.

The motherboard has Creative sound onboard so you may find it acceptable for you.

Oooh I like the look of both of those. That resolution on the second monitor would be plenty to be honest

Thanks very much for that :) plenty to think about. I was happy to add another 1080 but I guess I could just as easily add another 1070 to that second spec if I needed some extra grunt in future?

SLI is ready on both of those boards and the PSU has enough power.

Maybe a fully modular PSU would suit you better so you have the added option of getting a braided cable kit in a matching colour later on.

Just one last thing before I hit order, could you recommend a good wireless USB stick or wireless network card (whichever is best) to use? Thanks again for your help, really appreciate it

Stulid I have a question for you.

I don't understand what the advantage of g-sync monitor is (more expensive) over just buying a 144hz monitor (less expensive)?

Isn't a gtx 1070, gtx 1080 just going to drive it at 144Hz anyway irrespective of whether it is g-synch or not?

Look forward to hearing what you think? I am considering building a very similar rig so I can noskill-shoot folk with RPGs and noob-tubes in at an even higher fidelity :p

PS I am thinking of gaming at 1440p rather than 4K. I like FPS, Cod and BF, so I am thinking 27" 1ms TN........is it worth looking at any other screen type?

No i cant not for gaming as Wifi brings in too much latency for fast gaming.

Get power line adapters from - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/peripherals/networking-and-wireless-lan/powerline-networking

Its to do with the tearing, it totally eradicates it and allows the gfx card to control the refresh rate of the monitor keeping the action smooth.

I do not own a Gsync monitor, but I do own a 1080p 144Hz AOC screen, I have used a Gsync 1080p 144Hz Acer predator for a weekend when i built a PC for a friend and he let me try the monitor on my setup over the weekend while I built his rig, I can honestly say its night and day having Gsync 144Hz vs just 144Hz.

Its hard to put into words it is one of those things you need to try and experience.

I want Gsync in my life.
