My gaming laptop is a few years out-of-date, and struggles to play recent games at decent quality. So I'm looking to spec a decent quality machine that'll hopefully keep me going for the next few years (with scope for upgrades to push its life).

Other than gaming, the laptop mostly gets used for general office tasks (email, word processing, etc.) and when I'm feeling inclined I'll use it for programming projects.

I don't need: monitor, DVD drive, mouse/keyboard, sound card / speakers, OS. The PC will live in the living room, so quieter would be better. The case will be out-of-the-way so doesn't need to look spectacular.

Been a while since I've built a PC so I'm a bit lost as to what to look for these days. Any input appreciated. Budget is around £1200.

Thanks. I was thinking that a sensible bet might be to spend a little more and get something that I could SLI up later on in its life, and I'm guessing a midi tower and 600W supply would be barriers to that?

ETA: Or is it not really worth thinking about SLI when higher performance Pascal cards are just around the corner?
