Morning all,

My son has asked if he can buy himself a gaming pc and has asked for my help in spec'ing one. It'll mainly be for Fortnite and Minecraft (to begin with, although I may jump on it every now and then for Iracing). I think the last time i built a PC was around 2004 so not really sure whats good/bad these days.

I was looking to get one built to order (so that i know it works when it arrives...) and spec'd this one on the site

OcUK Gaming Kalis - AMD Ryzen 5 5500 GeForce RTX 4060 Gaming PC

SKU FS-1FT-OG
  • 1x Kolink Observatory MX Mesh ARGB Midi Tower Case - Black
  • 1x AMD Ryzen 5 5500 Six Core 4.2GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail
  • 1x Team Group Vulcan Z T-Force 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit - Grey
  • 1x Build - Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4060 WindForce OC 8GB GDDR6 Graphics Card
  • 1x Kolink Umbra EX180 Black Edition CPU Cooler - 120mm
  • 1x WD Blue SN580 1TB SSD NVME M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 Solid State Drive
  • 1x Asus USB-AX56 Dual Band AX1800 USB WiFi Adapter
this comes in at £819 and then added the Asus 27" VA27EHF monitor £98.99

For those in the know, is this a reasonable spec machine for a newbee PC gamer?

Thanks for any assistance

Adam

Thanks guys, I dont him to spend a chunk on money on a machine that will then need upgrading sooner than necessary.

I'd be happy to build it, but get lost with components these days, well actually motherboards if I'm honest and whether i should go AMD or Intel.

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated

Budget can flex a little but would prefer to keep it under £1100 if possible. Might be false economy but i'm happy for him to get a resonable spec machine now and then learn about upgrading as time goes on and he gets in to games requiring better resolutions etc.

Thanks for that Tetras, i'll have a look at some components tonight and see what i can come up with.

Thanks to everyone else too, all advice taken onboard - will keep you posted with the final build spec.

  • MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Ventus 2X OC 8GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card

  • Asrock B650M Pro RS WiFi AMD B650 Emplacement AM5 micro ATX
  • AMD Ryzen 5 7600 Six Core 5.10GHz (Socket AM5) Processor - Retail
  • Corsair Vengeance RGB EXPO 32GB (2X16GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C36 6000MHz Dual Channel
Spent the day morning on Saturday building it, had an issue with it not booting up but after some diagnosing it turned out one of the RAM sticks was faulty (new set ordered and these are being returned) so only used one stick to get him up and running. He absolutely loves it and he has plenty of scope to upgrade it (once he has paid for this build first...).

Thanks all for your help
