Hands up. I'm a lapsed PC gamer returning to the fold after years away on the dark side (console gaming).

Obviously, in repenting for my sins, I don't want to let myself or my new team mates down by buying a system incapable of blowing console gaming out of the water.....lol, only (half) kidding...

My tech knowledge regarding PCs stopped with the arrival of the 3dfx graphics card back in the day (which dates me, I know!)

Cutting a long story short I'm after a PC for one reason only....GAMING..

My specific requirements don't include a monitor because I'll be using my TV...
Also, I don't need an OS, though I'm presuming Windows 7 is what I should be using?

I will need everything else, including wireless keyboard, mouse and xbox controller adapter.

What I would like - and there is no brand loyalty here - is an overclocked or overclockable motherboard and graphics card, a fairly hefty PSU (circa 650w?) and enough grunt to be able to upgrade later, and I'm thinking minimum 8GB memory - though I hear in some quarters that 4 GB is considered enough

My intention is to run this at 1080p, either 30 or 60fps, so I'd be interested to see how people think this should go....

Please accept the return of a long lost prodical son and help a lost soul who is returning to the light..

My budget is £700, but could top out at £800 if this gave decent bang for the extra buck...

Was tricky to spec an Xfire/SLI capable rig in the budget. So i've gone for a single GPU setup. 600W is more than enough for a single GPU and overclocking the CPU and GPU.

EDIT...... I see RJC was on the same page as me. Trouble is he is top end of the budget and no keyboard, mouse or pad (with receiver), as I said it was tricky to do in the budget. A 60GB SSD is too small really. You could add one later as an upgrade with a greater capacity and use the 1TB for storage :)

Thanks all for your time and input. I do find it interesting how the variety of tech on the market allows enthusiasts to take completely different routes to the same destination

I think I know where I am going with this, but wonder if upping the budget might give me the chance to add a second card in cross fire later

If someone has the time to tweak the list of items to make this setup capable of crossfire that would be great

Thanks for your contributions again.

MSI Power Edition for a few quids.

Always a few quids more... :) Can get a OCZ PSU to claw back some money.

Secondly, don't bother with crossfire. Been there (and still there). It's OK, but frankly pointless for single display. The 7850 is a very good card (especially that MSI). If you want more power, get a 670.

Thridly, if your budget allows, get a 128GB Crucial M4 / Samsung 830 SSD in there.
