was given this spec by a friend of a friend who apparantly knows his stuff ! but thought i would get a few more opinions as dont want to be wasting any money if i can help it
one final thing will be playing this on a 42 inch telly 1080p
Samsung 256GB SSD 840 PRO SATA 6Gb/s Basic -
MSI Z77 MPower Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W)
Seasonic X-Series 750w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply
KFA2 GeForce GTX 660 EX OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
these are the main items he suggested form my budget
many thanks for any help

I dont dislike the Mpower mobo. You do get proper Xfire/SLi support with wifi and bluetooth included and some other nice freebies.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £279.95
1 x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) £239.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £112.99
1 x Plextor M5S 128GB Solid State Drive - (PX-128M5S) £89.99
1 x XFX 750W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply £83.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £79.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 200R Compact ATX Case - Black £49.99
1 x Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (PVI38G186C9K) £39.95
1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £29.99
1 x Pioneer 24x Internal DVR-S20LBK DVD Rewriter including Labelflash - Retail £20.99
Total : £1,041.31 (includes shipping : £11.25).

Quick example there but I could spec a few different options to be fair. If you wont run twin GPUs you can save cash on the mobo and PSU for sure :)

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) £239.99

1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £79.99
1 x Silverstone Strider Plus 500W Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (SST-ST50F-P) £67.99

1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £29.99

Total : £1,013.81 (includes shipping : £12.50).

Try and find a case you like and go from there. 500W is ample for a single GPU setup, 750/850W for Dual GPUs but the mobo will cost more for this feature.

Well under your budget, and fine for gaming. Maybe get a more powerful GPU (670/7950?) to give a bit more graphical fidelity on that massive screen.

Oh and I'd recommend an after-market cooler. The stock intel ones are quite loud IMO. Try the Dark Rock advance 2, just make sure your chosen case is big enough!

You can better SSDs cheaper than the samsung. And don't forget good RAM :)

With a 1k budget you could probably do much more.
