Hi guys,

Looking for recommendations for a new gaming rig, with a budget of circa £750.

The need for this has arisen due to a new monitor purchase - I need something that will allow me to play on a 2560x1440p monitor. Games such as Diablo 3, Blops 2, PoE, Far Cry 3, Crysis on release etc.

I already have:
  • 16GB 1600MHZ Kingston HyperX Grey
  • Agility3 SSD 120GB

So I need:
  • CPU - Preference is i5 3570k
  • PSU - quiet if possible
  • Graphics - battling between 7950 and 670... :S
  • Case - really like the Carbide 300R unless someone can recommend something else
  • CPU Cooler - I will OC. I like the look of the Antec Kuhlers...
  • Cheap DVD drive

All for £750...possible?

This rig is setup for SLI.. As you can tell from the motherboard and PSU..

That GTX 670 is a MAD price.. Bet theres nothing wrong with it either.

The case is really good and looks pretty too..

Air coolers aren't far off water cooler and are normally quieter.. The K" is one of the Top dogs.

The Carbide 300R is probably my favourite around that price point.
If you want to go B-grade, then the GTX670 already suggested will be better for the price.
Some people say that a decent air cooler is better than a liquid cooler. However, it's justifiable and up to you if you want stuff like a cleaner looking rig etc.
Won't you need a hard drive?

+1 for Dooms spec. Although not sure on the case suggestion?

It was deigned for silence and yet its best feature is cooling :D
And definetley need a modular PSU with it since its got very limited options round the back.

Now where did I put my review.... :p

Too late, that GPU has gone. :(

Yes I'm over budget but that doesn't matter as you shouldn't buy it now........more on that later. At that resolution you might well want to run a 2nd GPU at somepoint hence the mobo and PSU choice. I've used the windowed 300R as if you have a CLC might as well show it off right? This is just spit balling ideas because........

AMD have announced a new "never settle" games bundle for their 7800 and 7900 GPUs. The 7950 should come with Crysis 3 and BioShock infinite if you wait a bit. So I'm over budget but you don't pay for Crysis 3 seperately which it sounds like you'll buy ;) If the offers have changed by the time the bundle is released we can rebalance the spec and make sure you get the most for your cash :)

The GHZ editions are Yes..

Funnily enough, this one isn't:

Same Price, Same Speed, Same Card.. Just not voltage Locked.. UHHHHH!!

Just out of interest, how do you know this card is not voltage locked. I was under the impression that all newer GB 7970`s were locked.

Thanks guys. Going to read through this in detail shortly and reply...shame about the B Grade 670 though!! Bargain..will have to look into what B Grade means in terms of warranty though.

Re HDD's, I've got 2x SSDs and a 500GB mechanical to use.

You get a 90 day warranty with OCUK, and I think you also get the remainder of any manufacturers warranty. Might be an idea to check with Customer services to make sure.

OK. Had a quick look and come up with this hybrid...

How do you create the spec list, all nicely marked up? Is there a template?

Anyway, this is under budget but...

The 750w PSU and motherboard will mean I can Xfire the 7950 down the road...will a single 7950 cope at 2560x1440 well enough for the interim? Is it worth that bit more for a 7970??

EDIT: Noticed a few items are out of stock...really wanted to order this week (I'm on leave) to build :S Dangit

A B Grade 7970 (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BG-321-GI) in lieu of the 7950 brings the total to £779... :s

Too much damn choice lol

Ohhh.. I read somewhere it is only the GHz editions, i was wrong.

That's pretty odd of GB to do that.

@Op that build looks good, though like you say not all in stock. if you wonder on up to my spec above, all the components there are in stock (bar the 670). Id use the psu i spec ed, and maybe think about changing or getting the case somewhere else. (due to time constraints) :)
