Hi all,

I have a 3.5-4yr old rig and looking to update for some games coming out soon (Shadow of Mordor, Lords of The Fallen and so forth). My current set up just doesnt cut it anymore, so looking for some advice.

I want to recycle what I can at the moment, as cash is abit strapped with about £700 to spend max, but any cheaper would be great. See what you think and any advice would be great.
Currently I have:

800W PSU
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz
Manufacturer Intel
Speed 3.3 GHz
Number of Cores 4
Video Card AMD Radeon HD 5800 Series
Manufacturer ATI
Chipset AMD Radeon HD 5800 Series
Dedicated Memory 1.0 GB
Total Memory 2.2 GB
Memory 3.1 GB
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 32-bit
Service Pack 1
Size 32 Bit
Edition Professional

Note I have about 6GB (possibly 8, just cant remember) of RAM. Just cant use it due to this stupid 32bit OS.

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Hi, I think we will need more info..so,

• open the case up and look at the PSU, what make+model is it?
• Look at the motherboard, what make and model is it? usually this is written between the expansion slots.
• Download GPU-Z and post a screenshot of it on the info tab so we know exactly what card you have.
• Are you running a stock intel heatsink or an aftermarket one?

I'd overclock that CPU and buy a new graphics card. Then swap to a 64bit Win8.
The 2500K is still a good CPU and easily overclocks to 4GHz+

More info:
PSU - Corsair Gaming Series GS 800W
GPU - MSI ATI Radeon HD 5850 Twin FrozR II 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Mobo - MSI P67A-C45 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard ** B3 REVISION

Edit: Heatsink - Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler

Indeed.

My 2500k is running at 4.5ghz, going strong and will only change if a decent 3770k comes on the market.

Overclock it and buy a GTX970 :D

What do you still need to know, Stulid ?
Edit: Sorry for being a partial nub. I'm not massive on knowing builds etc

Stulid, he's given most of it.

PSU is good for a GTX970
Mobo should be OK for a mild overclock. Should probably be good for 4GHz even with the stock cooler.

Ok, so just bought the gfx card and win 8 64 bit.
How do I go about doing the overclock?. Never done this before and quite concerned about over doing it

You should have OC Genie as one of the tools with your board. You can use this to auto overclock. Give it a try.

Hi again,
I have just finished installing windows onto the ssd card and so forth.
I went onto can you run it and looked up shadow of mordor. It tells me that I have failed even the minimum specs for:

Pixel Shader version 5.0 1.4
Vertex Shader version 5.0 1.1

Any ideas how to upgrade the 1.4 and 1.1 to 5.0?. I have done all my windows updates and used "GeForce Experience" to update all the gfx card drivers.

At the mo I only have that games installed on it but will try another tonight. When I tab in TF2 I can only see player names and scores but the pings dont show. Windows looks fine when exiting on my monitor, but on my tv it all looks out of place and none of the resolution settings seem to suit.

You should be upgrading the GPU, switching to 64 bit Windows 7 (you can use the same license key), an upgrade to 8 GB RAM, and adding a SSD.

However, you mentioned Shadows of Mordor. Top quality graphics in that game will require 6 GB VRAM, so sit tight until the 8 GB GTX 970 and 980 cards are released.
