hey guys, i know i am not the best when it comes to technical things but was wondering if you would change anything with the following?

Clipboard03-1.jpg

already got a samsung spinpoint 250GB so i'd prolly have that in a RAID 0 with the new one.

also wasn't too sure about the motherboard as i've not seen many reviews for Core2 Duo mobos that are ATi rather than nVidia

many thanks in advance

oh thats quite clever thinking money wise.

i was liking the X1800XT cos its like £170 and in 6months i could upgrade to a DX10 card and i wouldn't have spent so much money on the X1900XT(X)

what you think of that or that just thinking too far ahead of myself ;-p

A pair of Samsung spinpoints in RAID is more than adequate for hard drive performance. You'd also save 15-20% getting the X1900XT instead of the X1800XT and Raptor.

I hear good things about the GSkill HZ PC6400 so I'd go for that - apparently it overclocks stupidly well.

I'd save money on the CPU cooler and get a TT Typhoon or AC Freezer 7 Pro.

I'd get an Akasa Eclipse instead of a P180.

I'd get an X1900XT and drop the Raptor.

i'd be worried about overclocking as i've never done it before. also the P180 has better cooling than the Eclipse or so i thought anyways. prolly wrong!

i understand why you say the X1900XT but really i don't want to get it and then for a Direct X10 card to come out with vista and the card to loose loads of money off its value. Surely a X1800XT would be good enough untill a DX10 card comes about?

I wouldnt worry about DX10 and Vista being necessary for a long while yet. If game developers suddenly made games non-backward compatible it would hurt their sales immensely.

its probebly not going to be worth going for the 1st gen of dx10 cards, chances are you'd see very little performance boost and they're likley to be even more expencive than current top end cards, so it'll be at least a year befor its really worth getting a dx10 card.

Also consider getting an extension cable for the 4pin m/board power cable if you decide to keep the P180. With the PSU located at the bottom of the case most PSU cables are not long enough.
