Hi People
need a little help got £1000 to spend on a base unit i would like it fast but silent as possible as the other half moans about the noise of my old pc any help is most greatful
Spec'd you up something for £1,000. Aimed for cool and quiet, whilst giving exceptional performance. The case is extremely quiet with the fans on low setting (they come with a 3 speed switch). The Zalman cooler is also brilliant at cooling and comes with a Zalman Fan Mate which allows you to adjust airflow and therefore noise of the CPU cooler. I have both and normally have mine all on low setting which I can barely hear but cools great.
I've also included an HR-03 which is a replacement heatsink for the 8800 GTX. That would have been the noisest part of the system, however with the new heatsink and an Akasa Amber 92mm fan to go with it, and an additional Zalman Fan Mate to go with that, you'll barely hear it even when heavy gaming. For this you will need to remove the 8800 GTX stock cooler which is nice and easy, then replace it with the HR-03. After that you would mount the 92mm Akasa Amber to the HR-03 which provided clips that come with the heatsink, and then plug the Amber into the Zalman Fan Mate and then you can control the speed/noise of the cooler from outside of the case.
Motherboard has DDR2 and DDR3 support should you ever consider to the keep the same motherboard and upgrade, and also a Corsair 620W PSU which should cover you for future upgrades as well as it's a brilliant power supply that is more than enough for this system in the spec. You may also notice that no thermal paste is included but that is by choice as the Zalman CNPS9700 comes with some excellent Zalman thermal paste in a little bottle and will do for 10 - 15 applications so use that for the CPU and the GFX coolers when mounting. Included you a sound card also, PCI-E 1x card. Not sure if you need one but it's a great little sound card and you can't really knock it for the price.
Just a word about the fair. I went to one recently and discovered they are actually the same price as the internet, fairs tend to have limited variety.
They would also stick random stuff in the machine. One stand specd me a pc but diddnt know what psu or hard drive he put in. Best to just buy online and know EXACTLY whats going in it.
