Hi all,

I've recently been looking into the world of PC Gaming, and as I come from a background of console gaming I haven't really done much building before. I've done some research into all the different parts, what all the abbreviations mean etc, so I feel reasonably up to speed (mainly thanks to lurking on here for a while :p )

With that, I was wondering if you lads (and lasses) could look over this system. I've got a budget of around £1200, and I need everything, keyboard, mouse etc, except for the OS (Looking at windows 8 beta).

The uses will be pretty much gaming, I mainly do FPS like BF3, also Diablo, Skyrim and the like.

Any tips on building/critiques please mention :)

Thanks for the input guys, I didn't realise SSD's were getting so cheap, £71 for 120gb seems like a bargain... I may have to hold out for around 6 months without one until I can up the budget a little bit

I know this may be the wrong sub-forum, but what would be the best way to connect to the internet? It will be one floor above the wireless hub, so I was wondering whether I should go wifi (I assume a card would be needed) or LAN cable and which one is better?

Thanks again for prompt replies

As for RAM, I was actually kinda colour co-ordinating, as well as the fact that it is low profile in case I put on a larger aftermarket cooler if/when I start to overclock it, for example something like a Phantek (I hear they're very effective+quiet).

Regards PSU, I thought the current PSU was modular?

Thanks for the Wifi help, will look into a powerline version as well, one of my mates has one, will have to look into it :)

Thanks again

The Psu i linked to is fully modular, unlike the XFX, which is partially modular. Although the XFX would be better for sli/xfire.

Cheers for the help, I'll switch out the PSU as I don't really have any intentions of going Sli/xfire, and a gtx670 should last a good time anyway by itself :)

As for the RAM, would non-low profile (aka normal height) be able to fit under large aftermarket coolers? I have seen it can be a tight fit for space under there.

Thanks again

Good point, somewhere down the line I may be having a play with overclocking... in which case an extra tenner now won't go to waste, especially if I'm having this for a few years, and the Samsung Green does seem like a very popular choice, so must be pretty good :)

I'll be buying aftermarket coolers and extra fans as well, possible going xfire/sli... I'm getting distracted with my computer dreams, I just need to get started now :D

Thanks for the help again

If you are thinking of going sli 670, you will need at least a 750W Psu with 4x6pin(Pcie) connecters. So you really need to choose your Psu wisely, other wise, you will find yourself having to buy again when you decide to dual card.

I have a set of powerline adaptors, albeit a few years old now and they are great. I never d/c from anything other than Fifa (which may not be down to the powerlines) and they are discrete enough for you to not notice. One of the best value £50 I ever spent.
