Hi, so far I had only laptops so it's time for my first computer,Budget f1100, f1200 max, with monitor, keyboard, and as the smallest and cheap speakers, because most of the time I spend on headphones.

Small, medium sized or large? i.e. micro atx, midi-tower or full tower? Any preferences as to Intel/AMD/Nvidia etc?

Must say it's a very nice spec from Shivy but since you ask for other ideas - here's something closer to budget and a little different, with more emphasis on monitor for viewing pleasure while gaming:

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Intel Core i5 DIY ATX Motherboard Upgrade Kit £329.93
1 x Powercolor Radeon R9 290 PCS+ OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £299.99
1 x LG Flatron 29UM65-P 29" WideScreen Super-Wide LED Monitor £259.99
1 x Corsair Obsidian 450D High Airflow Mid-Tower Case (CC-9011049-WW) £91.99
1 x Crucial MX100 256GB SATA 2.5” 7mm SSD + 9.5mm Adapter (CT256MX100SSD1) £79.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 650W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £59.99
1 x Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler £49.99
1 x Zalman ZM-K400G Gaming Keyboard £19.99
1 x Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £11.99
Total : £1,203.85 (includes shipping : ).

The monitor is greatly reduced this week till Wednesday, incorporates stereo 7W speakers (they're still only monitor speakers but will do the job from the sounds of it, as you use a headset most of the time). It also makes the order Free Shipping, knocking off £20 or so. :)

According to Linus (Tech Tips) it's a great gaming monitor, even though he personally doesn't like the dimensions (he's in love with LG's 34" 3440 x 1440 version).

The i5-4670K is sufficient for this set-up, and the Mount Doom cooler will ensure you don't run out of overclocking headroom for cooling reasons (that will depend on the chip lottery instead). The 290 GPU is more than capable of running very well @ 2560 x 1080.

The CPU/motherboard bundle saves about £25 or so on the parts in question, and comes with matching 8GB 2133MHz memory.

If you don't have massive storage needs right away, then the 256GB SSD would be good on its own for a while.

You haven't mentioned if you'll require Windows 7/8?
