I have recently purchased new Gaming PC Evolution Envy Duo S Intel Core i7 4.6GHz Nvidia GeForce SLI with GTX 970 graphics card and Dell Ultrasharp U2414H LED Monitor

I expected to be able to run games to their maximum potential and settings. For example Star Wars Battlefront runs perfectly at 60 frames per second apart from the fact i can't tune up the graphics any further without seeing heavy performance loss eg. Below 30 frames per second.

In that example what i can't turn up is mainly the resolution itself being currently scaled at 100 whereas i would be more comfortable at 200, to separate itself from the PS4 version, which i already own.

Games with a higher quality ie. The Witcher 3 could not run any more than the same standard as PS4 - but i don't want to essentially play a PS4 just with a keyboard and mouse, which is how it feels.

I want to know how to get the best gaming capacity out of the computer purchased also to run at 60 frames per second minimum.

Hope this makes sense. Can any experts out there advise me. Will be very grateful. Thanks

Resolution scaling is one of the most demanding graphics options you can apply. Not surprising at all that you're killing your fps by turning it up to 200%, as you're effectively running the game at 4K.

2x isn't 4k fyi, 4x is 4k.

Frame scaling is a massive resource hog but I would recommend testing nvidias dsr capabilities in the nvidia control panel.

On 1080 you can dsr up the 16:9 resolutions, so 1440p, 1800p, maybe not 2160p due to vram limits but you should be ok on one of the others.

Edit: Also check out the nvidia website for their optimal settings for specific games. It tells you which settings hit fps the most so you can fiddle with the settings to get it right.

Putting everything on full then setting scaling isn't the best idea, as some options don't make any visible difference, and frame scaling counteracts some.

For example, I play gta native 4k so don't turn msaa on as it makes no difference visually. And that is a big hitter for fps.

So 2x is twice the total pixel count? Thought it was twice both the horizontal and vertical resolution for some reason...

I'm only referencing how it is for dsr, but 4x equates to 4k in terms of 4x pixel count.

3840x2160p(4k) fits four 1080p screens technically

Performance advice

Just wanted to thank you all for your replies to my advice. I am a novice at this so your suggestions are really helpful. I will try them out and appreciate your time. Have good Saturday evening and no doubt I will be seeking further advice in the future.

Ttfn;)

you have a 1080p monitor why would you want to run anything other than 1080p?

also sli sucks. it's a waste of a second card.

This. SLi whilst pretty can not outperform a good single card. A 980ti will probably smash those 970s without all the driver nonsense :)
