ok doin this for my mate he has a gigabyte x58 ud5...12gig memory...ati 5850...i7 920....the other pc we have tested is asus p5q deluxe..quad cor intel 8 gb memory and a 8800 ultra.....now the pings in the game on the i7 are around 50-60 now we plug the old pc in and we get pings of between 25-35....on games like cod 4 modern warfare 2 my question is how come we get better pings on a older pc than a newer pc that cost a lot more to build....we have also tried a netgear n adapter in and still getting the higher pings on the i7, windows 7 is installed on both pc and we have tried it on fresh install of windows 7 latest drivers and nothing else installed...so whats the problem is it the graphics card causing a higher ping which i dont think so or is there a problem on the network adapters on the gigabyte board any info will be great on this thanks.

Have you tried pinging a website such as the bbc to see if the latency is different? If you are going via the in game pings when you press tab they appear to be quite off and change depending on a few settings such as /cl_maxpackets

yes but as i say there is a big difference between 2computers when he swaps between them thus the older pc better pings.

It's possible the Nagle algorithm has been disabled at some point in the past on the old PC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nagle's_algorithm). The algorithm causes packets to be sent in a more 'efficient' manner but not necessarily the fastest.

If you want to give it a test, download this "WoW addon" (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info13581-LeatrixLatencyFix.html) which is a script that disables the algorithm. Afterwards you will need to restart your computer. Btw it's not really a WoW addon and has almost nothing to do with WoW except from being hosted on that website.

It also has an uninstall script if you have any issues with it.

ill try that as well vidda mate thanks. vidda ive tried getting that kaspersky is sayin its a trojan? any ideas.

Hey dude,

According to the website:

Is this spyware, a trojan or any other nasty thing?
No. I think Wowinterface would have closed my account by now if Leatrix Latency Fix was malicious. The script code can be inspected by anyone to see how it works and exactly what it does.

I developed wow addons a while back in my spare time and can say that wowinterface tries pretty damn hard to stay virus free (all of the files there are hand checked).

I just uploaded the .zip to virus total (online scanner using a lot of different software) and Kaspersky does not recognise it as a virus - are you sure it's up to date?

yes its uptodate i turned it off and got it that way....just about getting fed up with kaspersky have to look into another virus program lol.

Who actually uses anti-virus programs?

I've never ever in my whole life owning a PC used one and I've never had one problem!

yo uknow what ive never even had a virus for years but still use one in case...they are more hassle than there worth most of the time aswell i think.
