Hello everyone I am new to this forum and I am having some problems with graphic quality whilst playing games. I recently updated my PC

old spec
Intel E8400 2 Duo
ASUS P5K
Stock cooler
HD 3870 512MB
Hitachi 500GB HD
4GB Geil Black Dragon DDR2 6400
Pioneer DVD

New Spec

Intel E8400 2Duo Clocked to 3.8
ASUS P5K
Zalman 9700
HD 4890 Vapour X
Hitachi 500GB HD
4 GB Geil Black Dragon DDR2 6400
Pioneer DVD
All latest drivers

With the new spec I have not noticed any different in the fps in games than in the old spec, does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?
The motherboard is quite dated could that be affecting the gaming problem?

Thanks

The Witcher, Heroes of Might and Magic 5, GRID. I didn't check with any software how many fps I am getting but games look exactly the same and they freeze in the same places, especially visible in the witcher.

Thanks

It appears you've only invested in a new GPU? What were your fps in your games before and after? Are they demanding games or not? Are you limited by your monitor's refresh rate and are you running vsync forced?

Your eyes can only see 26 fps , so you probably wouldn't notice any difference if it's above that :p

Might be worth checking the FPS with some software and are you running on the same quality settings as before ?

I can tell you straight away that the fps was not more than 5 fps in Heroes of Might and Magic 5. But only in certain camera views of the game. The same quality settings and screen resolution which is 1440 x 900.

to be frank he should have had an increase in fps instantly. Im slightly outstanded that nobody has yet told him to download FRAPS.

Do this please and see what FPS you are getting - i suggest running The Witcher and then reporting back to us both your highest and lowest readings.

If you are getting a constant FPS rate of no higher than say, 60FPS, then V-sync is enabled (basically the game will not run any smoother than the refresh rate of the monitor) - almost everyone turns this option off and there are very few games out there that dont allow you to do this from inside the games own graphics settings.

Come back to us with your fraps results - at max setting in The Witcherr you should be getting upwards of 80fps in places with your spec - which is a very good spec even today and especially compared to when the game was originally released.

Considered lowering your overclock? Lowering your FSB speed? That would always be my first point of call.

Then look at troubleshooting, remove 1 RAM module at a time, try your old PSU? Try the graphics card in another computer etc, format after upgrade? Driver cleaner etc etc?

Heroes of Might and Magic 5 Avg: 26.811 - Min: 8 - Max: 80 this game requirements is 256 MB graphic card recommended so it should fly on my 4890 vapour x. The fps is really low on certain camera views.

The witcher Avg: 62.060 - Min: 37 - Max: 85 fps so I think its just the way the game is.
