Gaming Problem

Don't really know if this is the right place but....

With my newish rig, I got about 60-80fps out of COD4, with my old one I got 20-30fps, however every so often I will join a server and get an unbearable fps of about 5-12fps, this also occurred on my old rig. When I restart, it is back to normal though. Any ideas?

What you got running in the backround? Might be an anti virus or something else doing something in the background.

I've got kaspersky, but I've always got it running, when its being sluggish, and when its being fine. Everything in the background is the same all the time.

Perhaps different amount of players on the servers?

Immediately alt tab out of it and see whats running in task manager.

Do you have nero media server or something like that running? They do some sort of directory scan to see if theres any changes and it takes quite a lot of resourses.

Well, it does on my single core AMD anyway
