Gaming rant: German servers are bad.

Can someone explain to me why i get a better ping in Polish, Dutch and French servers than i do on the Gameboy DS German servers?

My god they are so bad for online gaming, ping is 80, bullet reg is dire and i get some bad lag spikes.

This is about CoD4 by the way, but I've noticed this on multiple FPS games.

England -> Germany is BAD for online gaming.

Don't understand it myself and it's really ****ing annoying me.

Are you able to do a traceroute to a German server and see if you can pinpoint where the lag may be occuring?

Has it *always* been like this? - how long have you gone to play on a German server?

I'm sure there is an explanation.

I Always get lag/coke/loss in css on German servers.

And the french all have dodgy rates

The explanation (as far as i know) is simply the routing between our two countries...

Only decent server i played on in Germany was rented by tek-9 and it costs them A LOT of euros monthly.

They are just crap.

Used to refuse wars with german clans cos their servers were absolutely abysmal back in the 1.6 days :O
Interesting to see it's not just a CS problem.

.de servers have always been terrible for reg, just avoid them.

Used to always play on .de servers back in CS 1.6. And i'm in Ireland.

My connection had to go Ireland -> England -> Germany.

Between .de and .dk servers i have some happy memories.

80 sounds good, back in my dial-up days (as recent as 2006, stupid cheap rural phone & cable company) anyway I played Quake1-3 & UT2004 at 300+ & I was on the Champions Legue of Quake (spelling?) site.

I have bad pings on German servers too often, dutch are usually >30ms, uk ones are >50 ms usually for me.

Germans can't host for ****.

On my previous isp some dutch servers gave me a ping of 7 ms, and some uk ones gave me 15-20 :eek:

Never had a problem with them myself. Back in the UT2004 days I used to spend a lot of time on German servers due to the decent pings, and large number of players.
