I picked up a refurbished (looks brand new) PackBell Ipower GX-M-010 for 680.00 its got a decent spec:-Ge Force 9800M GTS 1Gb DDR3 but it was supposed to have a screen resolution of 1920x1200, yet it will only go to 1440x900 ( with latest drivers, and i tried a clean install of win7 64 bit)
But what i was wondering is ...would i only end up using that resolution for my game playing (MW2 BF BC2 etc) anyway.or should i just complain and send it back and splurge another 300 quid for a higher res screen.?
I am not to worried about playing Blue ray..
Thanks Guys
PS.it does only have P8700 2.5ghz core2 duo CPU but do i really need an i7 to play these games..?

although the graphic chip capable to support 1920x1200 but still it's depend on the lcd as well. only high end 17" lcd capable to support 1920x1200, the rest is only 1440x900.

1920 by 1200 is a BIG difference for desktop real estate. I have to settle for 1024 by 768 at work and it's really annoying when you are used to high res.

Higher res will give you a lower frame rate in games so at this lower res you might be better off. Also i personally think 1920 x 1200 is too big a res for windows on a 17". Small icons can be hard to read/strain eyes.

I use 1920 x 1200 on my 17inch Dell Vostro laptop almost all the time with no probs. However my other half finds it a strain for text and switches to lower resolution.
Most likely you or the vendor confused the ability of the card with the max resolution of the screen.

Thanks for all the replies.. i am very happy with the laptop.. it gets a 9239 score with 3DMark 06 it doesn't run hot. Its just the screen resolution, plus the screen has a sort of washed out look to and the viewing angle is crap. As its a refurbished model the laptop might have had a wrong screen fitted for some reason. Anyway i think i can definitely say to the company i bought if from.Pix something, that i want it fixing under warranty because it doesn't match the specs they quote on their website (of which i have copies) Wish me luck guys :-)

I was in PC world the other day and the sales assistant tried to sell me a PC with a "full HD screen". Being a bit more clued up than the average illiterate PC user I argued with him until he checked the specs of it. It turned out that, although it was running a 1366x768 resolution, it could OUTPUT at 1080p HD, but the screen itself couldnt display it.

...This could be what you have? The PC he was showing me was HP branded.. look into it, this might be the issue?

Just reread your last post. If it's Pixmania, (which is the European arm of currys/comet/etc.), I wouldn't put it past them for misprinting on their website. Bought a 22" screen from them a few years ago, it was about £25 cheaper on their site than anywhere else online; got it and it was VGA only (advertised as VGA/DVI). Sent it back and got a full refund as it wasn't what was advertised.. then i got a Samsung from OcUK :p

Strange thing is that this model PackBell Ipower GX-M-010UK (see Shroomz link above) is quoted by BackBell as having the full 1920x1200 display and Pixmania's specs just echo Pack Bells.. i am waiting for a reply to an e-mail to Pack Bell confirming that the model has never been released with a lower res screen then i will ask Pixmania for a screen replacement.

Maybe they're both quoting the hdmi output on the laptop not the res. Doubt pix will replace the screen, it'll go through the wrong rma process! Would be better to replace it with something like a dell studio - new icores and a possible 1gb memory for GPU so and a hd screen.
