Hi everyone,

My brother's pc has finally died after years of use he is looking to build a new gaming rig. He has around £600 to spend (£650 tops) and doesn't need a sound card, PSU, or any peripherals. I built my own a year ago but I'm a bit out of touch with current CPUs/gfx cards etc so any help would be great.

Cheers!

I'm a little out of touch myself...

The current must-have graphics card is the HIS X1950 256mb ATI card. OCUK are doing it for £109 + VAT at the moment (this week only).

Intel Core 2 Duos are the hot chips of the moment.

Hope this is useful.

I don't think he will really need 2GB of RAM, the games that plays are mostly WoW, CSS etc. Would substituting 1GB of RAM for a faster CPU be an option? Maybe I'm just used to the last gen of processors running at 3.5Ghz so 1.8 seems slow :p I take it they are good clockers?

e6300 will clock to 2.8 ghz 24/7, and i can strongly sugest 2gb of memory for gaming

edit C2D 1.8ghz will destroy the old 3.0ghz pentiums
