Gaming rig spec requests

So I was thinking about building a gaming rig and generally end up looking at systems around the £1,300 mark that have 980's, i7's etc.

However I wondered if it was possible to build something that would blow the performance of the current consoles away and run things like Fallout 4 at 180/60 on ultra at a more reasonable budget? Say £800 total including an OS and Monitor....(and even cheaper would be great if not too much to ask for)

So is it possible? I built my last PC about 10 years ago so am very far out of the loop.

Any spec ideas are most welcome.

I got my last build Nov 2004 so I’m in much the same boat. Its what I’m on using just now and have used near on every day. It did start showing its age around 2007 when I gave up on playing games on it.

I came to the same conclusion it would cost cica £1300-1500 for a spec that I wanted and would last me years. In my heart I want a new I7 and 980Ti and 32Gb DDR4 Ram that’s over kill but understand for games an I5 -970 GFX card 16Gb Ram would cut it. I don’t need a monitor as I did get a new 27” screen last year.

Buying the odd game on steam sales so I have things to play but happy to wait till next year. Must say I hate the naming conventions nowadays
:D

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £826.48
(includes shipping: £19.62)

I'm on my phone so had to fight with the ocuk website. Lol

This covers everything you would need in terms of storage, gaming, 8gb ram, os and monitor for a little bit over £800.

If you changed to an nvidia 970 to this the end price would be around £870 but the cost could be reduced a bit by maybe looking elsewhere for an operating system, or possibly looking second hand for a few things.

In addition, I think a lot of people would agree that having an ssd for the operating system and programs and a hdd for storage is a lot better. Less read times etc which is why I added one in.

I don't think I would recommend an amd 8350, the devils canyon out performs it and isn't too much more money if you pick mobo and ram well.

it was just an AMD build, figured it be a good/decent comparison to the consoles that are apparently AMD?

Ah true, it is definitely better than a console :) Missed that part of your comment sorry.

For the future I wouldnt recommend the 8350 but it is still very good IMO. I just upgraded from an 8350 to a 5820k however

8350 is a very good overclocker, I got to 4.6ghz stable very easily and was able to push to 4.8ghz on little over stock vcore on a ROG board.

Ive just went to the 4690k from the 8350 I know they say the 4690k is the intel comparison to the 8350 but I think the 4690k is the better chip. it runs games smoother can gain a few extra fps and also runs cooler its a no brainier.
