I am looking to build a new pc. gonna be for gaming and some websurfing res will be 1920x1200. what will be the best route. ie I7 or e8xxx or even AMD. like i say main purpose will be for gaming.

Budget would be a nice bit of information :D

If your just going to be gaming would advise a Core2Duo/Quad as the i7 are expensive and don't show a worthwhile improvement for the money in games, imo.

well prob max will be £1400-£1500 absolute max. it will only be my second build but if im spending that sort of cash i want it to last. i thought I7 as its new tech.

Yeah with that sort of budget you could go i7, hows this look for you?

Just add in an optical drive and your O/S and youre good to go

I think you might be confusing crossfire and SLI there, as far as Im aware SLI isnt effected by reduced PCI speed (someone can correct me if im wrong), but it has 3 full x16 speed slots for gfx either way anyway
Must admit im not sure how much difference there'd be between the 2 memory speeds, sry

Nice spec. With that budget deffo i7.
The X58 boards are the top of the range boards for i7 afaik. P55 should be out Q2 or Q3 09. Same as P45 and X48. Intel decided to bring out the top X58 board to cash in on people who have to have the latest spec and are offered no alternative.
X58 will be x16 on all PCI Express slots. As is X48.

"Core i7 1366 Support, 6400MHz FSB, Triple Channel DDR3 Support, 6x SATA, RAID, 8x USB2.0, FireWire, 7.1 HD Audio, Crossfire/SLI Support, Silent Heatpipe, Dual Gigabit LAN."

Supports both Crossfire and SLI.

hoping to get sli 280/285 atm but when i come to order whatever is best price nvidia or ati. what sort of psu to run 2 gfx cards? 750 minimum?

Put your system specs in their. What you want etc.
See what it needs, add 200watt to be safe.

Had a play with it...put in the above spec (including 5 LED fans) with SLI GTX280 and got 585watt needed. So add 200watt to that and 750-800watt would be good.

I'm thinking SLI is interpreted on that site as 2x GPU. In the case of X58 boards you can have Tri-SLI, 3x GPU. So 200watt headroom is good :)

i have an antec truepower quattro 1000w. il prob just keep that and try get a new sata power cable as one is a bit dodgy. i would like a case not to expensive but with pretty good cooling that would take 2/3 gtx280 or 4870 easily. in my antec 900 there is not a lot space. also how do i post shopping basket in a thread?

the 1200 has loads of room, got one myself
to post a basket print screen and paste into paint, then upload to somewhere like photobucket and use the URL to paste into thread

sounds complicated. this is what u have atm as a spec.

Save as a JPEG. Once done that, use Imageshack or any other website to host your image. Copy URL here and should work :P

Antec 300 is probably the cheapest case that is decent. You should be able to get SLI GTX280's in there. Have one myself (sig). Would need to check with someone tho...try googling it.."SLI GTX280 fit in...? etc."
Would recommend the 1200 though as its newer with more room. 300 will be a bit cramped :P

Keep the 1000w Quatro and use it for this build imo.

how does the spec i put look? if there is better hd options or beter mobo im open to suggestions. how much difference is there between dual cards or sli/crossfire?

The system you've built looks fine, go for it, it'll destroy any game set up you play
A single powerful gfx card set up is the best to go for, you can always add another one later

Agreed i've just put together a similar spec :) only major difference in mine is the motherboard which I went for a UD4P instead, parts should be here tomorow!
