Gaming room speaker advice

Hi all,

I am looking at getting some cheap ish speakers to go in my console gaming room that are better than the ones in my LG TV, not hard I know. I was looking the Edifier R1280DB in white they don't seem to be a bad price and have an optical input.
I dont want to pay too much for them incase the kids decide to destroy them like they did with the last set that didn't have covers on.
Any thoughts?

Hi there,

The Edifier R1280DB will be as good as anything else given your budget, I would certainly choose these over a similar priced sound bar. Agreed you can connect these via the optical out on the TV, this should be better then the TV's analogue output. The only issue with these speakers (as with all book shelf size speakers) is frequencies below around 45Hz are lacking, for this you would require a 2.1 system such as the Edifier S350DB however this increases cost significantly. But otherwise the R1280DB should be a big improvement over the speakers inside the LG TV.

If the budget can stretch, a good compact option would be the Kanto YU2's. Reviews are good and have good connectivity.
