Hi guy's.

I am thinking about putting a gaming server together for me and my friends to play on. We currently rent an arma 2 server, but it lacks reliability and also flexibility.

We like a bit of Arma 2, and Call of duty, and red orchestra 2 if it's any good.
Would be good to have a couple of games open at once.

Anybody know whats required? I have a 50mb broadband connection, with 5mb upload which always provides us with great sub 30 pings.

Ram is cheap so thats not an issue, I'm thinking an amd quad as they are slightly cheaper. But am trying to consider something power efficient.

Obviously a quality psu, and gigabit lan.

Any thoughts would be welcome :)

Run VMware 7.1 on your workstation and create multiple servers. You've got pleanty of bandwidth which is the main concern and you can set up a virtual server and run it all locally yourself. Save the hosting cash my friend. Just put pleanty of RAM in your workstation.

Hmm, some games require you to have licenses in order to host ranked servers.
An individual would be lucky to get an EA Ranked Server licence.

The majority of gaming companies now have moved to virtual servers because they can create multiple servers on a single box. Chances are that you think your buying a server from a company but its really a virtual server. They work exactly the same. From VMware 7.1 workstation you install the virtual machine as an "Appliance" and its set up as a server and you just install Windows or Linux onto it as you would a normal server. Go onto VMware website they have masses of information and you'll be surprised how easy it is to do.
