Hey All,

Im looking for a gaming spec with future upgrades in mind (aka when games take advantage of DX10), im looking at spending around 1k (ive gone slightly over already with this lol), so I have:

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - OEM - £110.44

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard - £99.86

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB) - £187.99

Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 2500KS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM - £55.21

Leadtek GeForce 7950 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail - £197.39

NEC AD5170 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM - £19.96

Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming case - £75.19

Hiper HPU-4M580 Type R 580W ATX2.2 PSU - Black - £52.86

Asus MW221U 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Silver/Black - £281.99

total including vat+del: £1,098.46

Im happy to have a smaller monitor or any other changes tbh, whatever suits :D

just a heads up on the hiper psu, i had to rma one resently and i think a few people on this forum have had some problems with them

Looks good to me but quite a lot of people have seem to had problems with the hipper PSUs so maybe go with a different make. :)

Hiper user <--- not gone bang yet :D but it doesnt like this clocked 805... hehe, i'd definately go for a different PSU.. (the hiper's aint quiet either!) enermax or tagen seem to be the PSU's of choice here...

It looks like a nice, well-balanced spec. As said though the Hiper PSU, while still far better than a generic PSU seems more prone to problems (going by these forums) than similarly priced models from other manufacturers. If you're on a budget, it's worth sacrficing the modular PSU for a quality cabled one. I'd recommend Seasonic, Akasa, Tagen, FSP without hesitation.
This graphics card :

is also worth a look, although the 7950GT remains a good choice. No card below £350 actually supports DX10 (I'm referring to the 8800GTS) but it will be a good while before games cease to support DX9 (Aside from publicity stunts like Halo 2) & these kind of cards deliver top DX9 performance. In short, they're capable of running current & near future games well on high settings.

Hey,

Thanks for your advice, in terms of the GPU id like to stay with Nvidia (just somin I prefer no idea why lol),

Is the 22" monitor worth the extra dough, im just wondering if id be better investing into a 19" and improving maybe the CPU?

Cheers

As above, you would see a big improvement in overclocking potential from getting the c4 stuff. Also, that cpu is the best option unless you can afford an e6600 and probably a differnet mobo, the ds3 is great with the e6300, but for the e6600 and above, you would really want one of the asus models, I don't know why but they just seem to work better together.

Make sure you order a HSF for your processor as well (freezer 7, scythe ninja, tuniq tower) as your OEM processor will not come with one, other than that, looks good :D

The CPU you have chosen is the OEM version. So you will need to purchase an aftermarket Heatsink and Fan, choose one from Arctic Cooling, Tuniq or Scythe.
