Hello Forumites!

My mate wants to finally upgrade his system. He just needs a base unit and has about £1000 to spend.

I've had a go at the below. he wants to have the 980Ti for sure but any other tweaks adjustments would be great. I'd prefer him to have the 6600k processor but I'm wondering if there is much difference between the previous verison?

YOUR BASKET
1 x Inno3D GeForce GTX 980Ti Herculez OC 6144MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (N98TV-1SDN-N5HNX) £515.99
1 x Gigabyte Z170XP-SLI - Intel Core i5 6600K Bundle **£20 Saving** £303.97
1 x Samsung 250GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive (MZ-75E250B/EU) £79.99
1 x EVGA Supernova G2 650W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £74.99
1 x Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHz Dual Channel Kit - Red (CMK8GX4M2B3000C15R) £65.99
1 x Aerocool V3X Advance Black Edition Midi-Tower - Black £23.99
Total : £1,064.92 (includes shipping : Ex.VAT).

Thanks in advance.

If anything Skylake seems to OC worse than Haswell, I wouldn't pay extra for it unless you really want DDR4 & the other features of Skylake.

Was just trying to keep it close to £1000/1100 as possible. And he doesn't care about the looks.
its not really just the looks, its the build quality. i might have plastic standoffs, the motherboard tray might be flexible and not be able to hold the motherboard straight with a heavy cooler or gpu, the screws might strip, the airflow will be bad and you might not be able to fit a decent sized gpu in. i would say to buy a half decent case for £60-100. once you have a decent case, he shouldn't need to buy one again for maybe 4-5 builds unless he want to down size to matx or itx.
