Gaming system build recommendation

Hi,

It's time for me to build a new machine that I primarily use for games, and occasionally some software development work. In the future I would also like to use it for 4K gaming and VR.

Unfortunately I've been quite out of touch with hardware over the years, so I could really use some help in recommending the following parts:
  • Motherboard, CPU, and memory (at least 16GB)
  • SSD for an OS drive. I suppose at least 256GB.
  • Secondary disk for games, storage, general use, etc. I think something around 2TB.
  • A good CPU cooler. I don't mind trying out an all-in-one water cooling set up.

I'll be re-using my graphics card, PSU (EVGA SuperNova G2 750W), and Coolermaster HAF-X case.

I intend to keep this machine for a few years, so I'm after high quality and robust components. Would be great if a modest overclock is possible without too much effort.

My budget would be up to £1000, although the lower the better :) I am looking for high quality, but also good value for money.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi,

Im currently using a MSI mpower titanium z170 and an i7 6700k. Motherboard has some nice features, BIOS is great. Great overclock interface and simple XMP for ram. 6700k for me and for most other people is a reliable overclock. I only have mine @ 4.6 from 4 though.

If you want an ssd exclusively for a boot drive, why not try a M.2. Theres a few cheap 128gb ones on OCUK and theyre very fast. Perfect for a boot drive.

Not sure about Standard harddrives, it really depends on your budget and preference.

All in one coolers depend on your case size/layout. You would have to choose one based off of those. Corsair, coolermaster, EK etc all have great ones. Once you know wether you can fit a 120mm or a 240mm.

Ram is ram pretty much. Corsair, crucial, hyperx. Doesnt really matter in my opinion. Just grab some with good reviews n which matches your colour scheme.
