Hello all, I am new here, I wish you all happy holidays!

I am looking to buy a gaming PC. I just need the base, no monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc is neccessary. I have around £800 (give or take) for my budget at the moment and was wondering what you would recommend for that budget. I would like to be able to play the latest graphic intensive games, possibly with them looking nice as well as playing nice too. Would you also advise me whether now is the best time to buy or whether I should wait as there could be newer things coming out, etc. I have a basic idea of what's what but I don't really know what I should get for around £800. Also, how important are gaming cases and please don't forget to say which one I should get and why if possible.

Note: I would love to be able to buy a system that is already intact as I am a lazy bugger.

Thanks all,
Jas87 :p

I was looking at that earlier, but I was also looking at this one: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...40GHz @ QX6950+ 3.00GHz Dual Core DDR2 System

Which one would get me the best FPS in graphic intense games such as Crysis? I don't expect to play on 100% maxed out details, I just want the game to have a bit of eye candy. I checked some reviews and when it comes to 4850 vs 4870, the 4870 is apparently better by a fairly big margin but as for the other pieces of hardware, how big is the difference between the two machines?

hi i pretty much have your system in my signiture (the one your thinking of getting) and i can play crysis on high averaging 48 FPS @ 1680x1050 res according to the benchmark. i can hit 65 fps in places where there is not a lot going on and the fps never drops below 30

PS to be honest theres not much in it between the 4850 and 4870

I have the same system as you except for Geil ram and i play on everything very high 2xAA getting around 25 fps looks amazing though and is playable.

Thanks for the input guys. My instinct is telling me to go for the Ultima system over the Titan Accelerator. Last chance for someone to change my mind. Are there any last things anyone could tell me?

I would advise re-thinking buying any PC for gaming.

There is always only a handful of good titles for the PC. Very often the games referred to as 'awesome' and 'PC Only masterpieces' are garbage and in no way worth the huge cost you pay to run them. Of course, if you are rolling in cash then this is not an issue but in this current economic climate you should consider a purchase like this very carefully.

If you do decide to buy, I'd try and build a cost effective system and make good use of sale offers.

Ignore Yashiro, I think he's trying to wind you up, I used to own consoles (what I think he's alluding to) but got rid of them, they dont even come close to a PC in terms of gaming, PC games have much better graphics, greater content and more detail. Im specifically speaking about COD4 for example which I played on both PS3 and PC, PC just laughs at PS3, its like comparing a PS3 and sega or something. Anyway enough of PC vs console
You're right in erring towards the Ultima, that is a better system, you've got faster gfx (most important) as well as faster RAM, and a more powerful PSU also which would prob give you scope to upgrade more in future. Re the case, if you're thinking of trying to push the system further yourself on OC then its prob worth upgrading to at least the antec 900, possibly even 1200, the better airflow will give you better ambient temps that will allow you to push your CPU that little bit further (If you're new to OC you dont have to worry at first but that CPU should be capable of at least 3.4-3.6 without too much effort - In fact its advertised as OC to a minimum of 3Ghz so they may well push it further for you) Aside from airflow the main thing in cases is aesthetics, which is down to you personally, if you dont like the look of it its prob best to avoid it as you'll be staring at it a lot, unless you hide it under your desk, lol

I appreciate you taking the time to reply in such a manner. I think I will actually go for the utima system with the antec 900. I am not going to go crazy on OC'ing - I am just borderline beginner on that front. Thanks to all who posted ITT.
