Hey guys

Just joined the OcUK forums and used their site to order myself some components for my first PC gaming build. I'm not an expert on this type of subject but i'd like to think i picked some good parts that can run most games like bioshock / crysis :D

Before i order, is there anything you would replace / not buy - I want to make sure I've picked a system where everything is compatible and you think is a good product.

Specs are as followed ;

Coolermaster Stacker 830 Evolution - Nvidia Special Edition (No PSU)

Coolermaster Real Power 850w Modular Power Supply

OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Reaper HPC Edition Dual Channel DDR2

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.83GHz 12MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor

EVGA nForce 780i SLI *** nForce 780i (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

BFG GeForce GTX 280 OC 1024MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (66I-01939)

They are my specs at this time, but i'm willing to change if you don't recommend any of these parts. Like i said i'm not an expert in this subject, and really gone with these parts from what people have said + reviews.

Thanks in advanced :)

Looks like a good spec, I would consider a 4870x2 instead of the GTX 280 too, just I prefer ATI over nvidia and have heard good things about the 4870x2. You'll also need a CPU cooler. Go for something like the tuniq tower if your overclocking, will keep it pretty cool.

Hope this helps! :)

I agree with Rebel, looks good, the Tuniq is nice, I have a Noctua and find it very good at keeping the 8600 cool. I'm also biased in that I love the Antec 1200 case, extremely well built and easy to work in.

unless you want to sli in the future, get a P45 chipset, they are better overclockers.

Thanks guy for the suggestions, will look into a new cpu cooler because i just have a retail one and there pretty bad ( so i've heard )

I was looking at some extra case fans to keep my temperature cool and especially if i will SLI in the future. Is there any 120mm fans people recommend? Theres so many i'm really not sure which ones are great for price, not to noisy and keep good airflow :)

Thanks again :)

If you havn't got enough for the noctua's, the sharkoons are a good alternative. As £15 is a bit steep for just one 12cm case fan.

Sharkoon:

get a 4870 x2 with a p45 board, p45s are more stable and overclock better and will take a 4870 x2 which is much better than a gtx 280.

an antec 1200 with some sharkoons/noctuas (or even the prebuolt fans) will keep your system the coolest.

and go for the Q9450, its only a bit less mhz than the q9550 but is quite a bit cheaper, andyou can overclock it just the same.

Change the hard drive to a 640gb - these have more dense platters and are therefore faster. I'd also go for a 4870x2 and a P45 or x38 chipset mobo.

I'd normally say def a 4870x2 for that resolution, but read somewhere else today that Crysis and 4870x2 don't mix all too well, in that the game can't utilise the true potential of the card. I don't know the in's and out's of this I'm afraid, but would recommend looking into it further. If there is an easy fix, the 4870x2 is a monster card :)

ok, cheers for your help man. i'll do some research into it :P

Thanks for everyone else that helped me and answered my questions - helped me a lot into to buying a good PC. I'll definitely come back here as the OcUK forums have been incredibly helpful and friendly.

Thanks all :D
