Gaming tower for £400?

Building a system for my brothers friend for his birthday, he has a budget of £400, the best I could come up with was the following which is £57 over budget but just felt anything less was too much of a compromise,



What do you think?

Can anything be done any cheaper? AMD?

An i3 chip would bring the cost down a lot, would there be a big difference in performance?

You could easily get away with an FX6300 set up, to allow a 120GB SSD in the build (Since you're already over). Really can't see an FX6300 and 270 being a compromise.

I'd change that PSU too, I don't think they're all that solid?

Not a fan of OCUK's PSU selection at the moment to be honest, it's the one part I hate ordering from here.
It'd have to be the HX550W you'd go for, the price on that 450W isn't really "value" compared to it.

Thats all I can suggest, he can upgrade the Pentium to a Haswell/broadwell K series later.

Thanks stulid that looks like a good build, didn't think about the unlocked pentium, that should do him for now and like say upgrade the CPU at a later date.

The Pentium K is well beaten in games by the i3, even when overclocked. Especially something like BF4 (minimum FPS is terrible on the Pentium)

I'd get a cheaper mobo, and an i3, or go AMD with the FX-6.

Also, since this is a budget build, I would get this Antec 450w power supply for less than £20;
