ok got a PS3 on the way and I dont think my technosonic supermarket tv will be up to the job. so im looking for a new tv for the ps3 and 360 :D it will also be used for the sky tv and watching Blu rays

got a strict budget set by the mrs of £700 and not a penny over.

requirements are it must be black,
must be 1080p compatible
must have reasonable sound although thats not overly important as will be getting a cinema sound system in the near future to run it all through anyway.

If possible also be 42" but certainly no lower than 37"

quite like the look of the samsungs and see a lot of people in the show your setup thread have them

so any suggestions or alternatives?

cheers

You could pick up a Sony KDL40D3500
1080p 40 inch for £699 in a high street shop, so if you shopped around, you could maybe get it cheaper.

Working on it :o

The new 6 series Samsung's are getting superb reviews.

1080p
Superb Standard picture as well as excellent HD quality
Plenty of rear connections
Black ;) but with a red hint

Usually deeper blacks, little to no blur, better contrast, cheaper (:D)

They can get screen burnin though :(

I was told by member of staff in a well known high street PC Shop, that new plasma TVs no longer have screen burn(I dont believe him though!). But plasma TVs still cause an high electricity bill compared to LCD's

I'd take anything they say with a pinch of salt, new plasma's are less likely to get screen burn, but it can still happen. I might be wrong, but i've never heard of a plasma that's 100% safe from screen burn? :(

Sorry but your estimation of electricity usage is wrong with a plasma. LCDs have a constant backlight, thus constant current draw, but a plasma uses more energy depending on the brightness of the image. A brighter image will give a massive power draw, but how offten do you watch a bright white image ? Then obvisouly a darker image, especially black will use less power. It does vary, but overall not a huge amount more than an LCD.

A plasma will be much better for your sky and films, and a good 720p plasma like the panasonic PX80 will look better than a crap 1080p LCD. It's not all to do with the number of pixels. A PZ pana is 1080p and better, but then again plasmas will suffer from image retention if you are not careful. Im talking playing the same game for 3+ hours a day, 5 days a week.

If that is the case then it is best to look at an LCD like the sony V or better still the W series. Much better than a smasung LCD, build, reliability, and improved picture.

I game hard on my plasma, but with it being a Kuro it doesn't suffer from image retention at all, but a bit out of your price range ;)

I wish I could afford a kuro :p

I'm a pretty heavy gamer myself, altho usually don't play the same game for more than about 4 hours at a time, maybe 3 days a week, the only game i'd play for longer than 4 hours would be rockband, but that usually only once a week.

do you think this level of gaming would cause screen retention on a pana PZ80?

thanks in advance! :)

I know which site that is. :)

I got it for £599.99 + £30 delivery. :)

My username is Robert1986 at avforums. Take that as a hint.

Awesome, any chance you could email me please? (email in trust)

that would be great :)

thanks in advance! :D

EDIT: I've found the PX80 for £599.99 but the PZ80 is £729.95 on the site i 'think' you talking about, can you confirm its the PZ80 you have found? thanks :)
