Gaming TV

The new 6 series Samsung's are getting superb reviews.

1080p
Superb Standard picture as well as excellent HD quality
Plenty of rear connections
Black ;) but with a red hint

im really liking this, just gotta persuade the mrs to allow the slight budget increase now ;)

You could pick up a Sony KDL40D3500
1080p 40 inch for £699 in a high street shop, so if you shopped around, you could maybe get it cheaper.

I picked up a Sony KDL40V4000 with Sony Blu Ray BDP-350 (they're going for £230ish on there own) for £699 a week ago and I'm delighted with it; and would totally recommend it especially if you can get a similar deal.

I see the contrast rate is 33000:1 over the 16000:1 of the D3500; but is there any reason you'd recommend this over the 4000?

I wish I could afford a kuro :p

I'm a pretty heavy gamer myself, altho usually don't play the same game for more than about 4 hours at a time, maybe 3 days a week, the only game i'd play for longer than 4 hours would be rockband, but that usually only once a week.

do you think this level of gaming would cause screen retention on a pana PZ80?

thanks in advance! :)

Not at all :)

Turned the settings down (inline with the recommended settings @ AVF) and just used it taking care if I was going to be away from the screen for 5 mins or more to turn the screen off (standby)

Playing Rock Band (3 hours plus per day!), Watching Angel on DVD (1st season is 4:3 and leaves big borders left and right of the picture) at 3 hours per disc and watched 2 discs back to back (~6hours!)

Currently playing Tiger Woods 09 whihc has large amounts of static displays on screen - nothing so far.....

Likewise playing on the PS3 - GT5p has speedo/mirrors in the same place all the time - nothing burnout in/on either :)

Buy it now :>

a certain high street stores website sells a TH42PZ8B and a TH-42PZ80B does anyone know the difference? the TH-42PZ80B is £10 more!

EDIT: also have you noticed any phosphor trails on yours? i've just been reading a review on the PZ80 and it states that it suffers from them :( the good news is that most people don't notice them :)

I didn't realize there was a V4000 with higher contrast for the same price :)

8 & 80? Couldn't tell you - I have the 82 from a high street retailer which has a dark grey bezel.

As for phosphor trails I think I've seen them occasionally playing NBA 2k6 doing full length court passes which involves very quick movement.

Beyond that I cannot see it at all :)

Borrow 80quid and get the KDL40W4000! The V4000 has gone up in price recently for some reason and is actually close to the W series now. The V4000 could be had for £595 a while back aint sure why its gone up again. The W4000 can be had for 780 now and is a worthy choice if you can get some extra dough as its a 10bit-panel + XMB menu system. Youll get amazing PQ with Sony panels.
