I'm still in a quandary over what to upgrade for my partners machine, it's got a socket 754 3400 and an X800 Pro (which I've flashed to an XT PE), she's using a 19" TFT so I wondered out of the following would be the best upgrade for gaming purposes

Athlon X2 3800 and one of them Gigabyte PCI-E S754 motherboards or
Athlon 64 4000 and the same board or
X1800XT (512mb one) and an Nforce 4X board

Appreciate any help.

mobile 4000+ s754 perhaps.
You can get these in the UK now. A major online retailer is going to stock them for £215.91 and should have stock in 1-2 weeks.
More than reasonable price for the clocks i have seen on them. 2.6 as standard with 1mb L2 and an easy O/C to over 3ghz, yes please

Sorry, I should have read what I typed before I posted it.

What I meant was an 3800 X2 and a socket 939/AGP Gigabyte motherboard which means I keep the X800, or get a socket 754 PCI Express motherboard, keep the 3400 and get an X1800.

I'm just wondering what'll give me the greatest performance increase, would it be more significant leap to an X1800 from and x800 or to an X2 from a 3400?

Depends on what you want to use it for.
If multitasking & gaming then the dual core CPU.
If gaming only then the graphics card.

Purely for gaming, the most she does application wise is use Opera or Word.
