Hey guys. I need a new computer for gaming and video editing/rendering. I was originally going to go for a laptop but now I'm leaning more towards a desktop setup. This one's pretty compact which is neat but I'm not sure if it will limit any expansions I might need in the future.

From what I gather, different graphics cards are for recommended for video stuff but would this one be OK (GTX780)?

I'm sure the following specs will be fine for gaming but do you know if they'll also be OK for video editing/rendering and capturing while playing at decent settings?:

"ForceBox Ultimate" Intel Core i7 4770K @ 4.2GHz Quad Core Nvidia GTX Gaming PC

- Case: Bitfenix Prodigy Micro ATX Gaming Case
- CPU: Intel Core i7 4770 3.40GHz Haswell Processor with Turbo enabled to 3.9GHz
- Motherboard: Asus Z97 Gryphon Micro ATX Gaming Motherboard
- RAM: 16GB (2x8) 2133MHz DDR Dual Channel Memory (NOT SURE IF THERE'S 2 MORE SLOTS AVAILABLE?)
- High Definition 7.1 Onboard Sound Card
- Cooler: Intel CPU Cooler
- Power Supply: Premium 600W 80+ Rated Power Supply
- Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00614)

Options applied to the above product:
- Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic
- Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM HDD
- MSI Geforce GTX 780 Gaming Edition OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

OC Price: £1,379.88 plus shipping

Any advice appreciated,
Ash

This one would be better than the one in your post, as it has an OCable CPU and a great cooler (and a better case)

I'd personally go for the 290.

RAM wise, you can add another 16GB set later. :)

Thanks Doom, that spec looks much better.

What about this spec with an 780Ti? (I was hoping to get a G-Sync monitor at some point too). I don't really know what the difference is between the different 780Ti cards though so just selected the cheapest.

You can ask them to build you a pc from your own spec. You just need to post a basket in the customer services section, and they will give you a quote. The fee is usually around £60 depending on the spec.

Here is the link to the shopping cart plugin - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18371076&highlight=browser

Also Gigabyte are doing a cashback promotion for some of their boards - http://uk-promotion.gigabytenordic.com/

The gaming 7 and i7 4790k should give you £25 off.

Any idea which z97 Gryphon they are using in the Envy? The basic one does not support 2400 memory afaik.

Also out of curiousity, why would you go for the 3g 780 over the cheaper 4g 770?

Cheers Lee. Don't think I can use the plugin as I'm on my iPad.

Is there much difference between the MSi and Asus 780Ti?

MSI cooler is great but it's had some problems with oil leaks.

The Asus would be my choice.

Get this 780ti

Yes, that one. :)

The Gryphon will support 2400mhz RAM with some OCing, which im sure OCUK will do, as you specifed wanting 2400mhz RAM.

The 780 is a a better card than the 770. That extra 1GB of VRAM won't be a factor. I never seen the point in the 4gb 770, either get the 2gb 770 and do your best or get the 780. :)

VRAM isn't a block, once the limit is reach your FPS can still increase if you card has more to give.

OK, following all the advice I think this is my final spec now. Is the 2400MHz memory pointless over the 1866MHz?

I did really want a Fractal Define R4 case as I have one at work and it is amazingly quiet, has great build quality and looks very cool but sadly OCUK don't list them. I like the look of the Aerocool DS200 case too though (and I need the system to be quiet) but am concerned it only has 1 x 140mm front fan and 1 x 120mm back fan so I added another 140mm fan (top?). Any advice on case fans?
