Bit of an odd one this, so stick with me....

I've got a machine that I use as a VM server at home. It's my only desktop machine as I use two MacBooks as my main computers.

I recently shoved an 8600GT in it as the fan on the old card was getting on my nerves. It was cheap, and had 512MB of RAM which sounded just what I needed.

Then I wondered if it was capable of playing any games, and Diablo 3 has me interested somewhat.

In order to give the card a whirl I tried downloading the Bulletstorm demo from Steam, but it was unplayable and looked awful to boot. I've got the latest drivers installed, and Windows 7 is all updated.

The specs of the machine are:

Intel E6600 C2D 2.4GHz
8GB DDR3 RAM
Various HDDs.

I know it's not going to play everything on full detail, but I thought I'd be able to at least get it to work.

Am I expecting too much?

Cheers.

You could wait and download the starter edition? I think it'll be available from start of next month ish.

you don't have to pay £400 for a graphics card to play any single modern game. there are sub £100 cards out there that will play all games at playable speeds and settings, and such cards are bound to destroy the 8600gt
